{"id":187970,"date":"2016-02-27T08:45:36","date_gmt":"2016-02-27T15:45:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=187970"},"modified":"2018-04-13T08:07:31","modified_gmt":"2018-04-13T15:07:31","slug":"matthew-novinski-among-top-seeds-at-2016-nebraska-state-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/matthew-novinski-among-top-seeds-at-2016-nebraska-state-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"Matthew Novinski Among Top Seeds After Prelims At 2016 Nebraska State Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The 2016 Nebraska State High School Championships kicked off yesterday with quick swims in prelims.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Olivia Calelgan<\/strong> of Lincoln Southwest grabbed the first-place seed in the 50 free with a time of 22.95, while teammate\u00a0<strong>Clara Walstad<\/strong> finished second with a 23.80.<\/p>\n<p>Calegan also nabbed the top seed in the 100 free with a swift 50.30, over two seconds ahead of the competition.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Alena Palmer <\/strong>of Lincoln Southwest\u00a0finished first in prelims of the 200 free with a time of 1:50.04. Second went to\u00a0<strong>Caroline\u00a0<\/strong><b>Theil\u00a0<\/b>of Pius X turned in a time of 1:51.65 for second.<\/p>\n<p>Palmer continued her mid-distance prowess with a first place seed in the 500 free. Palmer stopped the clock with a 5:03.98. Papillion-Lavista&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jordan McCullough<\/strong> (5:06.22) and\u00a0<strong>Emma Miller<\/strong> (5:07.62) return as second and third respectively.<\/p>\n<p>On the men&#8217;s side it was Norfolk&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Cameron Carney\u00a0<\/strong>who turned in the top time in the 200 free with a 1:42.95. Carney also grabbed the top seed in the 100 free with a swift 46.67.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lance Culjat\u00a0<\/strong>of Brownell\/Concord turned in double top seeds in his individual events. Culjat returns as the top seed in both the 200 IM (1:54.37) and the 100 breaststroke (56.73).<\/p>\n<p>Grand Island&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Matthew Novinski\u00a0<\/strong>delivered top swims in the 100 fly and 100 back to return as tonight&#8217;s top seed.
