It’s been a quick prelims session in Federal Way, WA where the 2016 Pac-12 Women’s Swimming Championship is underway for day two. It’s turning out to be a dogfight between No. 1 Stanford, No. 4 USC, and No. 6 California. The No. 14 Arizona women are also edging there way into the mix.<\/p>\n

500 free<\/h2>\n

The top spot going into finals was claimed by USC’s Chelsea Chenault<\/strong> (4:39.32). The junior was the only swimmer under the 4:40 barrier, but the entire A heat for tonight clocked in under 4:45. Second seed went to Oregon State senior Sammy Harrison\u00a0<\/strong>(4:42.74) and third seed was claimed by Arizona senior\u00a0Bonnie Brandon<\/strong> (4:43.19).<\/p>\n

USC claimed four of the top eight spots, Stanford grabbed two, with Arizona and Oregon taking the remaining two.<\/p>\n

Stanford freshman\u00a0Ella Eastin<\/strong> grabbed top seed going into tonight with a 1:53.33. She was followed by a pair of women from California. The freshman\u00a0Kathleen Baker<\/strong> notched second seed (1:54.69) and senior\u00a0Liz Pelton<\/strong> was third (1:55.98). The entire top heat is under the 1:58 barrier.<\/p>\n
California has four of the top eight spots. USC has two, as does Stanford.<\/p>\n

Second seed goes to USC’s junior\u00a0Anika Apostalon<\/strong> (21.89), while Stanford’s\u00a0Lia Neal<\/strong> rounded out the top 3 with a 22.01. The whole top heat is under 22.30.<\/p>\n
USC has two women in the top heat, as do California and Stanford. UCLA and Arizona each have one.<\/p>\n
