{"id":187287,"date":"2016-02-24T18:05:17","date_gmt":"2016-02-25T01:05:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=187287"},"modified":"2018-02-13T15:31:14","modified_gmt":"2018-02-13T22:31:14","slug":"big-east-day-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/big-east-day-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Georgetown, Xavier Take the Lead After Day One of Big East Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Chandler Brandes, Swimming World College Intern<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The first day of the 2016 Big East Swimming and Diving Championships took place on Wednesday in East Meadow, New York.\u00a0After day one, the Georgetown women currently are in the lead, and Xavier sits first on the men&#8217;s side.<\/p>\n<p>Click <a href=\"http:\/\/www.besmarttinc.com\/BigEast\/201X\/2016\/RTR\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> for live results.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 800 Free Relay<\/h3>\n<p>Villanova&#8217;s team of\u00a0<strong>Kaisla Kollanus\u00a0<\/strong>(1:46.99),\u00a0<strong>Mary Snyder\u00a0<\/strong>(1:48.74),\u00a0<strong>Caitlin Daday\u00a0<\/strong>(1:50.57), and\u00a0<strong>Emily Mayo\u00a0<\/strong>(1:48.58) dominated the event in 7:14.88, nearly ten seconds ahead of the runner-up.<\/p>\n<p>Georgetown&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Bailey Page\u00a0<\/strong>(1:50.05),\u00a0<strong>Dorothy Morgan\u00a0<\/strong>(1:51.12),\u00a0<strong>Madeline Loniewski\u00a0<\/strong>(1:52.32), and\u00a0<strong>Christine Ryan\u00a0<\/strong>(1:51.30), were second in\u00a07:24.79.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 800 Free Relay<\/h3>\n<p>Georgetown&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Daniel Ross\u00a0<\/strong>(1:40.67),\u00a0<strong>Henry Rogatz\u00a0<\/strong>(1:39.39),\u00a0<strong>Chandler Hinson\u00a0<\/strong>(1:39.56),\u00a0<strong>Jacob Kohlhoff\u00a0<\/strong>(1:38.95) won the event in 6:38.47, dropping over 18 seconds from their seed time.<\/p>\n<p>Xavier&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alex Wolfred\u00a0<\/strong>(1:40.27),\u00a0<strong>Rodrigo Suriano\u00a0<\/strong>(1:39.34),\u00a0<strong>Enrique Hernandez\u00a0<\/strong>(1:40.63), and\u00a0<strong>James Foster\u00a0<\/strong>(1:39.99) took second in 6:40.23.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 1m Diving<\/h3>\n<p>Seton Hall&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Gabby Signorelli\u00a0<\/strong>won the women&#8217;s 1m diving event with a score of 502.80. This win marks the senior&#8217;s fifth Big East individual\u00a0title.<\/p>\n<p>Georgetown&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sarah Jaklitsch\u00a0<\/strong>(461.70) dove to second and\u00a0<strong><\/strong>Providence&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Kendall Jerzyk\u00a0<\/strong>(441.40) took third.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 Medley Relay<\/h3>\n<p>Villanova&#8217;s team of\u00a0<strong>Darby Goodwin\u00a0<\/strong>(25.15),\u00a0<strong>Elise Pidutti\u00a0<\/strong>(29.25),\u00a0<strong>Fiona Hardie\u00a0<\/strong>(24.30), and\u00a0<strong>Alexandra Fabbri\u00a0<\/strong>(22.30) won the second relay\u00a0of the night in 1:41.00, edging the runner-up by half a second.<\/p>\n<p>Xavier&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Paxtyn Drew\u00a0<\/strong>(25.61),\u00a0<strong>Rebecca Titterton\u00a0<\/strong>(28.78),\u00a0<strong>Caroline Gaertner\u00a0<\/strong>(24.08), and\u00a0<strong>Claire Brolsma\u00a0<\/strong>(23.05) took second in 1:41.52.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 Medley Relay<\/h3>\n<p>Xavier&#8217;s team of\u00a0<strong>Erik Biernat\u00a0<\/strong>(23.74).\u00a0<strong>Michael Pettinichi\u00a0<\/strong>(25.19),\u00a0<strong>Albert Hitt\u00a0<\/strong>(21.04), and\u00a0<strong>Luke Johanns\u00a0<\/strong>(19.53) won the event in 1:29.50.<\/p>\n<p>Seton Hall&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Lior Grubert\u00a0<\/strong>(24.31),\u00a0<strong>Zohar Suslovich\u00a0<\/strong>(24.87),\u00a0<strong>David Rowe\u00a0<\/strong>(21.40), and\u00a0<strong>Dakota Williams\u00a0<\/strong>(20.43) edged out Georgetown for the second spot in 1:31.01.<\/p>\n<h3>Current Women&#8217;s Team Standings<\/h3>\n<p>1.
