MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, August 6. THE Dagny Knutson train kept on rolling during the third day of swimming at the U.S. Junior Nationals held in Minneapolis. Knutson followed up a pair of golds last night with another victory tonight.<\/p>\n
Knutson, 16, of Minot YMCA opened the third night with a meet record in the women's 200 free. She clocked a time of 1:59.91 that broke her preliminary standard of 2:00.01. That effort cleared the 2:01.19 set by Chelsea Nauta back in 2005. Catherine Breed, 15, of Pleasanton placed second in 2:00.40, while Rebecca Jones, 17, of Tide touched third in 2:00.61. Both times were under Nauta's old record.<\/p>\n
Rob Andrews of Great Lakes followed with a meet-record time of 1:51.49 in the men's 200 free. He clipped the 1:51.74 set by Titus Knight back in 2006. Trevor Scheid of Jewish Community also beat the old record with a second-place 1:51.73. Nick D'Innocenzo, 17, of Magnus finished third in 1:51.94 after pacing prelims in 1:51.82. Notably, Jordan Huff, 16, of Dubuque Area won the consolation heat in 1:51.74.<\/p>\n
Haley Anderson, 16, of Sierra Marlins continued the meet-record onslaught with a standard in the women's 400 IM. She turned in a time of 4:47.19 to eclipse the 4:48.25 set by Elizabeth Beisel last year. Amber McDermott, 15, of Salmon Bay finished second in 4:49.77, while Julia Kucherich , 16, of York YMCA took third in 4:50.39. <\/p>\n
Andrew Gemmell, 17, of Delaware Swim Team capped the individual meet-record rollout with another standard in the men's 400 IM. He posted a time of 4:22.36 to break his prelim standard of 4:23.75. His earlier swim crushed the 4:26.41 set by Matt Thompson last year. Charlie Rimkus, 17, of Mission Viejo placed second in 4:25.29, while D'Innocenzo snagged third in 4:27.43.<\/p>\n
The meet records kept falling in the relays. Brophy East's quartet of Ashley Evans, Traycie Swartz, Haley Krakoski and Whitney Lopus checked in with a time of 8:16.85 in the women's 800 freestyle relay. That performance erased the 8:19.65 set by Club Wolverine with an anchor of current Olympian Allison Schmitt in 2006.<\/p>\n
The only meet record that withstood the challenge this evening came in the men's 800 freestyle relay. SwimMAC-Carolina's time of 7:36.27 recorded last year stayed on the books.
