{"id":186759,"date":"2016-02-22T13:31:47","date_gmt":"2016-02-22T20:31:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=186759"},"modified":"2018-02-13T15:34:52","modified_gmt":"2018-02-13T22:34:52","slug":"2016-big-east-championship-preview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2016-big-east-championship-preview\/","title":{"rendered":"2016 Big East Championship Preview"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Chandler Brandes, Swimming World College Intern<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The 2016 Big East Swimming and Diving Championships begin on Feb. 24 at the\u00a0Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, N.Y.<\/p>\n<p>Full psych sheet available here: <a href=\"\/results\/2016-big-east-psych-sheet\/ncaa-college\/2016\/February\/24\" target=\"_blank\">2016 Big East Psych Sheet &#8211; Results<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Xavier men will look to win their third-consecutive Big East team title.\u00a0In 2015, they won nine of the 13 swimming events, and their depth led them to win all five relays. Xavier will return some of their top scorers in\u00a0<strong>Luke Johanns<\/strong>, who won the 50 and 100 free last year, and\u00a0<strong>Nick Foster<\/strong>, 2015 Champion in the 500 and 1650.<\/p>\n<p>The Villanova women will also look to win their third-straight team championship title. Like the Xavier men, the Wildcat women also won nine of 13 swimming events and all five relays. They&#8217;ll return top scorers\u00a0<strong>Emily Mayo,<\/strong> who dominated both the 500 and 1650 last year, as well as\u00a0<strong>Fiona Hardie<\/strong>,\u00a0Big East Champion in the 200 IM and both fly events, and <strong>Kaisla Kollanus<\/strong>.\u00a0They&#8217;ve been strong this year, holding the top times in all but two events in the conference.<\/p>\n<p>The Georgetown men came\u00a0in second last year, and will return 2015 400 IM Champion\u00a0<strong>Daniel Ross.\u00a0<\/strong>They&#8217;ll also rely on\u00a0<strong>Chandler Hinson,\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Evan Grey,\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Samuel Delise<\/strong>,\u00a0all of whom registered three A-final showings in 2015. The Hoyas finished in the top three in all five relays last year, and their top returners, as well as rookie\u00a0<strong>Arthur Wang<\/strong>, will\u00a0seek to take the title away from Xavier.<\/p>\n<p>The Hoya women also finished second last year, and their top returner is sophomore\u00a0<strong>Molly Fitzpatrick.\u00a0<\/strong>Fitzpatrick won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events last year, and\u00a0is a key component to Georgetown&#8217;s relays. Also returning is\u00a0<strong>Katie Duncalf<\/strong>, the 2015 Champion in the 200 back who also had a strong showing in the 100. Along with sprinters\u00a0<strong>Erica Fabbri\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Bailey Page<\/strong>, Georgetown\u00a0will\u00a0look to challenge Villanova for the team title.<\/p>\n<p>Seton Hall diver\u00a0<strong>Gabby Signorelli\u00a0<\/strong>won both the 1m and 3m last year and will look to defend her titles in both.
