The Williams College men\u2019s swimming and diving team earned their 14th consecutive conference title and 15th overall crown Sunday evening at the 2016 NESCAC Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Williams. The Ephs accumulated a total of 1,789.5 points followed by Tufts University in second place with 1,410.5 points. The Jumbos edged Connecticut College by less than four points, as the Camels tallied 1,407 points for third place. Amherst and Bates placed fourth and fifth, respectively, with 1,315 points and 956 points.<\/p>\n
The evening session began with the longest event of the weekend, the 1650-yard freestyle, in which Middlebury\u2019s Michael McGean<\/strong> placed first with an NCAA provisional-qualifying time of 16:02.45. Michael Winget<\/strong> of Tufts took first place in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:47.30, a new pool record as well as an NCAA provisional time. Williams’\u00a0Jamie Finnegan<\/strong> was then victorious in the 100-yard freestyle when he touched the wall in 45.27 seconds, an NCAA provisional time.<\/p>\n Greg Han<\/strong> gave Amherst its first victory of the evening in the 200-yard breaststroke with a mark of 2:04.01, an NCAA provisional time. Teammate\u00a0Jeff Anderson<\/strong> followed up the performance by winning the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:49.68, which was a new pool record and an NCAA provisional mark.<\/p>\n Tufts’\u00a0Matthew Rohrer<\/strong>\u00a0earned a win on the 3-meter diving board with an NCAA provisional score of 503.10.<\/p>\n The evening concluded with the 400-yard freestyle relay, which was won by Williams’ team of Benjamin Lin, Jamie Finnegan, John Hammond<\/strong>, and\u00a0Grant Johnson<\/strong>.
