Boone doubled up with a 54.60 in finals of the 100-yard back after setting the 4A record with a 54.40 in prelims.<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown&#8217;s <strong>Abby Larson<\/strong> broke the 4A record in the 50-yard free with a 23.79. \u00a0That swim cleared the 23.89 set by <strong>Joelle Vereb<\/strong> back in 2014. Larson doubled up with a 4A record 51.69 in the 100-yard free. \u00a0That swim thumped the previous mark of 52.35 set by <strong>Margaret Williams<\/strong> in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown&#8217;s<strong> Joelle Vereb<\/strong> won the 100-yard fly with a 4A record 54.63, lowering her own mark of 55.83 from 2014. \u00a0Vereb doubled up with a 1:05.15 4A record in the 100-yard breast. \u00a0That swim beat the 1:05.97 set by <strong>Jacqueline Tinneny<\/strong> in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Lafayette&#8217;s <strong>Jenna Beattie<\/strong> became the first 4A swimmer under 5:00 in the 500-yard free with a 4:51.74 in finals.<\/p>\n<p>Lafayette&#8217;s <strong>Grace Olsen, Emma Freiling, Jessica Beattie<\/strong> and <strong>Tawni Hatcher<\/strong> turned in a 4A record time of 1:50.78 in the 200-yard medley relay. \u00a0That broke Grafton&#8217;s mark of 1:51.61 set in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown&#8217;s<strong> Joelle Vereb, Hannah Clymer, Margaret Williams<\/strong> and <strong>Abby Larson<\/strong> posted a 4A record 1:36.09 in the 200-yard free relay. \u00a0That swim beat the 1:36.49 set by Jamestown last year.<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown&#8217;s <strong>Abby Larson, Hannah Clymer, Margaret Williams<\/strong> and <strong>Joelle Vereb<\/strong> set a 4A record with a 3:30.67 in the 400-yard free relay. \u00a0That time downed the 3:34.42 Jamestown set in prelims.<\/p>\n<p>Louisa County&#8217;s <strong>Shyanne Morris<\/strong> was the only competitor in the one-meter diving event, winning with 237.85 points.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Boys<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jamestown won the 4A boys title with 275 points. \u00a0Hanover took second with 154 points. \u00a0John Champe (153), Jefferson Forest (146) and Courtland (142.5) claimed third through fifth.<\/p>\n<p>Dominion&#8217;s <strong>Matthew Popovich<\/strong> raced his way to a 1:41.16 to win the 200-yard free. \u00a0That swim cleared the 4A mark of 1:41.84 set by<strong> Jonathan Spires<\/strong> last year.<\/p>\n<p>Heritage&#8217;s <strong>Michael Burris<\/strong> downed the 4A record in the 200-yard IM with a 1:53.60. That swim beat the 1:54.10 set by <strong>JP Popovich<\/strong> last year. Burris doubled up with a 4A record 56.64 in the 100-yard breast after clocking a record in prelims with a 57.28.<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown&#8217;s <strong>Colin Wright<\/strong> twice downed the 4A record in the 50-yard free with a 21.51 in prelims then a 20.98 in finals. Wright doubled up with a 46.53 in the 100-yard free.<\/p>\n<p>William Byrd&#8217;s <strong>Khalil Fonder<\/strong> hit the wall in a 4A record time of 50.51 in prelims then turned in a 49.02 during finals. Fonder doubled up with a 49.91 in the 100-yard back. \u00a0That cleared his own prelim record of 50.83.<\/p>\n<p>Loudon Valley&#8217;s <strong>Sean Conway<\/strong> lowered the 4A record in the 500-yard free with a 4:36.65. \u00a0That performance beat the 4:38.55 set by <strong>Owen van Krimpen<\/strong> last year.<\/p>\n<p>John Champe&#8217;s <strong>Kyle Barker, Joaquin Gabriel, Michael Kaslik<\/strong> and<strong> Andrew Yaunches<\/strong> won the 200-yard medley relay in a 4A record 1:37.65. \u00a0That swim cleared the school&#8217;s previous record of 1:38.67 set during prelims.<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown&#8217;s <strong>Colin Wright, Corey Shideler, Jaq de Leon<\/strong> and <strong>Ben van Tasel<\/strong> won the 200-yard free relay in 1:28.29.<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown&#8217;s <strong>Colin Wright, Corey Shideler, Ben van Tasel<\/strong> and <strong>Ryan Boll<\/strong> won the 400-yard free relay in 3:14.11.<\/p>\n<p>Harrisonburg&#8217;s<strong> Isaiah King<\/strong> won the one-meter diving title with 314.70 points.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jamestown swept the boys and girls titles at the 2016 Virginia 4A State High School Championships.
