COLLEGE PARK, Maryland, July 31. SEVERAL more YMCA national records fell by the wayside during the third day of the YMCA Long Course National Championships held in College Park.<\/p>\n
Emily Lloyd, 15, of Anne Arundel ripped off a time of 57.07 in the women's 100 free. That cleared the 57.51 she set last year. Hollis Capuano, 17, of Cheshire finished second in 59.04 with Heather Savage, 17, of Canandaigua taking third in 59.08.<\/p>\n
West Shore Y kept on the steam of a strong meet thus far for the team as Leah Gingrich, Lauren Schmittle, Emily Weaner and Claire Loht dropped a time of 8:29.28 in the women's 800 free relay to smash the YMCA record. Middle Tyger set the previous standard with an 8:35.83 last year. Gingrich's leadoff split of 2:00.22 demolished the 200 free YMCA record of 2:03.90 set by Lindsey Smith in 2003. It also set the pool record previously held by Brittany Reimer since 2003.<\/p>\n
Evan Reed of Upper Main Line clipped the men's 100 free YMCA record with a 51.25. That cleared predecessor Mark Knepley's 2001 51.52 set while representing Upper Main Line. Scott Marino of Fanwood Scotch finished second in 52.54, while Nick Johnson, 17, of Tri-Hampton took third in 52.68.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Middle Tyger's Greg Morgan, David Ingraham, Chris Reinke and Lee Groseclose took down the men's 800 free relay YMCA record with a 7:52.27. That time wiped out the 7:52.52 set by Middle Tyger in 2006.<\/p>\n
Plenty of other finals also took place. Laura Simon, 17, of Middle Tyger won the women's 800 free in 8:59.00. Caroline Smith, 17, of Winston-Salem took second in 9:03.79, while Kelly Ann Baird, 16, also of Winston-Salem placed third in 9:10.28.<\/p>\n
Middle Tyger went 1-2 in the women's 400 IM. Laura Simon, 17, won in 4:58.12 with teammate Haley Lips, 14, taking second in 5:00.92. Lauren Baisden, 17, of Upper Main Line captured third in 5:03.63.<\/p>\n
Sarah Galvin, 17, of BR Ryall snared the women's 200 back in 2:19.61 with Kelly O'Connor, 17, of North Shore (2:20.73) and Annie Gillig, 13, of Middle Tyger (2:21.88) rounding out the top three.<\/p>\n
Savage touched out Sarah Lloyd, 15, of Anne Arundel, 28.56 to 28.66, in the women's 50 fly with Siri Smits, 14, of Oshkosh placing third in 28.99.<\/p>\n
Matt Navata, 16, of Montclair eased through the men's 400 IM in 4:34.48 with Travis Green, 17, of Huntington taking a distant second in 4:38.27. Nathan Hart, 16, of West North Carolina touched third in 4:41.41.<\/p>\n
Countryside swept first and second in the men's 200 back. Jim Barbiere won in 2:06.11, while teammate Steven Zimmerman, 15, finished second in 2:07.24. Josh Friedel, 15, of Rappahannock closed out the podium in 2:08.82.<\/p>\n
Countryside won another as Alex Smit, 17, took the men's 50 fly in 25.56. Harry Foster of West Shore placed second in 25.98, while Greg Daniele, 17, of Red Bank grabbed third in 26.14.<\/p>\n
