NC State\u00a0won in 2015, followed by Louisville\u00a0and Virginia Tech.<\/p>\n<h2>5 Races to Watch:<\/h2>\n<h3>1. 50 Free<\/h3>\n<p>If NC State is known for anything, it&#8217;s for producing top-level sprinters.\u00a0<strong>Simonas Bilis\u00a0<\/strong>won the event last year and holds the conference and meet record, and will look to defend his title.\u00a0The Wolfpack placed four swimmers in the A final last year, and even with the graduation of\u00a0<strong>David Williams<\/strong>, they still have four of the top ten seed times.\u00a0FSU&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jason McCormick\u00a0<\/strong>and Duke&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>James Peek\u00a0<\/strong>will also be in the running, and Boston&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Dan Kelly<\/strong> has been looking strong.<\/p>\n<h3>2. 100 and 200 Back<\/h3>\n<p>All eyes will be on\u00a0Louisville&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Grigory Tarasevich\u00a0<\/strong>and NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Hennessey Staurt<\/strong> in both backstroke events.\u00a0Tarasevich won the 100 in 2015, and Staurt won the 200, breaking the meet and conference record.\u00a0The Cardinal is the top seed in both and\u00a0has already achieved his NCAA A cut in the 100, and they both have earned their A cuts in the 200.\u00a0Although the races are likely to come down between those two, NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andreas Schiellerup\u00a0<\/strong>and Louisville&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Aaron Greene\u00a0<\/strong>could be a dark horse.<\/p>\n<h3>3. 200 IM<\/h3>\n<p>2015 ACC Champion\u00a0<strong>Brandon Fiala<\/strong>\u00a0will aim to defend his title, but will have to hold off\u00a0Louisville&#8217;s strong IM group.\u00a0<strong>Nolan Tesone <\/strong>is the top seed in the event\u00a0and will look to improve upon his fifth-place finish last year.\u00a0<strong>Josh Quallen<\/strong> was also an\u00a0A finalist in 2015, and\u00a0<strong>Jonathan Zouca\u00a0<\/strong>is yet another Cardinal top seed.\u00a0Each swimmer will utilize their strengths as some fast times are sure to be posted in what will be a close race.<\/p>\n<h3>4. 800 Free Relay<\/h3>\n<p>All of the relays should be exciting, but the 800 free relay is particularly interesting.\u00a0Last year, NC State dominated the event, winning by seven seconds over Louisville and setting a new meet and conference record.\u00a0However, Louisville&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Trevor Carroll\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Matthias Lindenbauer\u00a0<\/strong>hold the top two times in the 200 free for the ACC, but\u00a0the Cardinals\u00a0and the Wolfpack\u00a0combined currently hold ten of the 11 top times in the the conference in the event.\u00a0Louisville is seeded four seconds ahead of the Wolfpack as they fight for the win\u00a0on the first night of competition.\u00a0The meet and conference record are sure to be broken as both teams look to approach the American record.<\/p>\n<h3>5. 100 Breast<\/h3>\n<p>After a disappointing disqualification in finals after setting a new meet record during prelims in 2015, Duke&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Peter Kropp<\/strong> will look for redemption in the men&#8217;s 100 breast on the third day of the meet. Kropp is currently ranked second in the conference and seeded first in the event, but will face tough competiton in Virginia&#8217;s <strong>Yannick\u00a0Kaesser<\/strong>, who has already achieved his NCAA A cut.\u00a0FSU&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jason Coombs\u00a0<\/strong>and Louisville&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Carlos Claverie\u00a0<\/strong>will also be in the title hunt.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Chandler Brandes, ACC Beat Writer It will be another exciting weekend in Greensboro with the start of the\u00a02016 Men\u2019s ACC Championships tomorrow.
