Virginia will look to maintain their lead as they seek their ninth-consecutive ACC title.<\/p>\n<p>NC State currently sits in\u00a0second. North Carolina is in third, and Louisville is a close fourth.<\/p>\n<p>Click\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theacc.com\/page\/championship_c-swim_livestats\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>\u00a0for live results.<\/p>\n<h2>1650 Free<\/h2>\n<p>To kick off the 2016 ACC Women\u2019s Championships, Virginia&#8217;s <strong>Leah Smith<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/leah-smith-sets-ncaa-record-in-1000-1650-frees\/\" target=\"_blank\">set an NCAA record<\/a> in the 1000-yard free and 1650-yard freestyle events.<\/p>\n<p>Smith first went out in 9:20.15 to break the 1000-yard freestyle NCAA record of 9:23.78 set by\u00a0<strong>Brittany MacLean<\/strong>\u00a0for Georgia at the 2014 NCAA Championships.\u00a0That time\u00a0moved Smith to fourth all time in the event behind\u00a0<strong>Katie Ledecky<\/strong>\u00a0(8:59.65),\u00a0<strong>Katie Hoff<\/strong>\u00a0(9:10.77) and\u00a0<strong>Kate Ziegler<\/strong>\u00a0(9:18.35).<\/p>\n<p>Smith went on to break the 1650-yard free NCAA record of 15:27.84 set by MacLean in 2014 as well. Smith clocked a 15:25.30, moving her up to third all time\u00a0after Ledecky&#8217;s 15:13.30 and Hoff&#8217;s 15:24.35.<\/p>\n<p>NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Hannah Moore\u00a0<\/strong>finished second in 15:50.46 while her teammate\u00a0<strong>Rachel Muller\u00a0<\/strong>took third in 16:02.15.<\/p>\n<h2>200 Back<\/h2>\n<p>Virginia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Courtney Bartholomew\u00a0<\/strong>won the 200 back in 1:49.90, just off her own ACC meet record. The senior has gone eight for eight in the backstroke events, winning both the 100 and 200 since her freshman year.<\/p>\n<p>This also marks her third individual win of the meet and her ninth ACC title of her career as she becomes Virginia&#8217;s most decorated swimmer of all time.<\/p>\n<p>NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alexia Zevnik<\/strong> finished second in 1:51.26 and North Carolina&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Hellen Moffitt\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 1:52.35.<\/p>\n<p>Louisville&#8217;s <strong>Ashley\u00a0<\/strong><b>Eclair<\/b> won the B-Final in 1:55.18 and\u00a0Florida State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Megan Brown<\/strong> won the C-Final in 1:56.65.<\/p>\n<h2>100 Free<\/h2>\n<p>After <a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/186303-2kelsi-worrell-breaks-conference-meet-record-during-acc-prelims\/\" target=\"_blank\">setting the meet and conference record<\/a>\u00a0in this event earlier this morning,\u00a0<strong>Kelsi Worrell\u00a0<\/strong>went even faster tonight. The Louisville senior won in 47.30, clipping the record by .03. This is her third individual title of the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Louisville had 1-2 finish, with freshman\u00a0<strong>Mallory Comerford<\/strong> taking second in 48.31. NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Riki Bonnema\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in 48.50.<\/p>\n<p>North Carolina&#8217;s <strong>Caroline Baldwin\u00a0<\/strong>claimed the B-Final in 48.76 and\u00a0Virginia Tech&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Adriana Grabski<\/strong> won the C-Final in 49.30.<\/p>\n<h2>200 Breast<\/h2>\n<p>Virginia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Laura Simon<\/strong>\u00a0defended her title in the 200 breast, winning in a time of 2:06.86. The junior\u00a0is the first back-to-back ACC Champion in the event since 2007-08.<\/p>\n<p>Louisville&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andee Cottrell\u00a0<\/strong>finished second in 2:07.42 and\u00a0Virginia Tech&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Weronika Paluszek\u00a0<\/strong>took third in 2:07.95.<\/p>\n<p>Pitt&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Katie Fernander<\/strong>\u00a0took the B-Final in 2:13.25 and\u00a0Virginia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Vivian Tafuto\u00a0<\/strong>dominated\u00a0the C-Final in 2:13.07.<\/p>\n<h2>200 Fly<\/h2>\n<p>Virginia won their fourth event of the evening, with <strong>Kaitlyn Jones\u00a0<\/strong>taking the 200 fly title in 1:54.65. This is the junior&#8217;s second individual ACC title of the weekend after her win in the 400 IM.<\/p>\n<p>Virginia Tech&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Klaudia Nazieblo\u00a0<\/strong>took second in 1:55.30, while the Cavaliers\u00a0registered another top-3 finish with\u00a0<strong>Jen Marrkand<\/strong> taking third in 1:55.87.<\/p>\n<p>Not too long after winning the C-Final in the\u00a0200 back, Florida State&#8217;s Brown took the B-Final in 1:57.45.\u00a0NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Yuri Nakano<\/strong> won the C-Final in 1:58.94.<\/p>\n<h2>Men&#8217;s Platform<\/h2>\n<p>Georgia Tech&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Brad Homza\u00a0<\/strong>dove to first in the men&#8217;s platform diving event with a score of 436.25. Miami&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Tanner Willfong\u00a0<\/strong>was second with 422.00 while Virginia Tech&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Mauro Castro-Silva<\/strong> took third with 383.20.<\/p>\n<h2>Women&#8217;s Platform<\/h2>\n<p>After qualifying sixth during prelims, Louisville&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andrea Aquista<\/strong> took the women&#8217;s platform title with a score of 318.15. Miami&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Wally Layland<\/strong> took second with 200.80 and Duke&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Maryellen Targonski<\/strong> posted a score of 286.85 for third.<\/p>\n<h2>400 Free Relay<\/h2>\n<p>NC State dominated the final event of the weekend, winning the 400 free rely with a time of 3:11.90.\u00a0Zevnik (47.95), Bonnema (47.91),\u00a0<strong>Courtney Caldwell\u00a0<\/strong>(47.85), and\u00a0<strong>Natalie Labonge\u00a0<\/strong>(48.19) broke the league and meet record.<\/p>\n<p>Virginia&#8217;s <strong>Megan Moroney\u00a0<\/strong>(48.50),\u00a0<strong>Ellen Thomas\u00a0<\/strong>(48.24),\u00a0<strong>Shannon Rauth\u00a0<\/strong>(48.73), and Bartholomew (47.98) took second in 3:13.45.\u00a0North Carolina&#8217;s<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Baldwin<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>(49.13), <strong>Allyn Hardesty<\/strong> (48.27),\u00a0<strong>Sarah Hitchens\u00a0<\/strong>(48.01), and <strong>Lauren Earp<\/strong> (48.34) was third in 3:13.75.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Chandler Brandes, ACC Beat Writer Tonight marks the\u00a0final night of the 2016 ACC Women&#8217;s Swimming and Diving Championships in Greensboro.
