Western Albemarle High School swept the girls and boys titles at the Virginia 3A State High School Championships.<\/p>\n
Girls<\/strong><\/p>\n Western Albemarle won the 3A state title with 278 points. \u00a0Blacksburg (231), Cave Spring (184), Hidden Valley (181) and York (170) also made the top five.<\/p>\n Cave Spring’s Emma Muzzy<\/strong> picked up the 3A state mark in the 50-yard free with a 23.42. That swim beat the 23.99 posted by Alex Slayton<\/strong> last year.<\/p>\n Muzzy claimed another 3A state mark with a 4:52.36 in the 500-yard free. \u00a0That swim cleared the 4:54.33 set by Abigail Richey<\/strong> back in 2014.<\/p>\n York’s Danika Katzer<\/strong> obliterated the 3A state record in the 200-yard IM. \u00a0Katzer clocked a 2:04.49 in prelims before posting a 2:02.65 to win the finale. \u00a0Emma Muzzy<\/strong> set the previous record last year with a 2:07.16. Katzer doubled with a 1:05.58 in the 100-yard breast.<\/p>\n Riverside’s Claire Nguyen<\/strong> won the 200-yard free in 1:51.33.<\/p>\n Warhill’s Morgan Whaley<\/strong> topped the 100-yard fly in 55.86.<\/p>\n New Kent’s Julianna Jones<\/strong> won the 100-yard free in 52.35.<\/p>\n Cave Spring’s Paige Assaid<\/strong> earned the 100-yard back title in 55.97.<\/p>\n Cave Spring’s Paige Assaid, Tessa Muzzy, Allie Lawson<\/strong> and Emma Muzzy<\/strong> won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:49.19.<\/p>\n York’s Alex Slayton, Elena Evans, Makenzie Katzer<\/strong> and Danika Katzer<\/strong> topped the 200-yard free relay in 1:39.55.<\/p>\n Cave Spring’s Paige Assaid, Allie Lawson, Tessa Muzzy<\/strong> and Emma Muzzy<\/strong> claimed the 400-yard free relay in 3:36.50.<\/p>\n Hidden Valley’s Celia Harding<\/strong> topped the one-meter diving event with 361.30 points.<\/p>\n Boys<\/strong><\/p>\n Western Albemarle won the 3A title with 351 points, while Hidden Valley took second with 276 points. Tabb (216), Brentsville District (196) and Monticello (164) finished third through fifth.<\/p>\n Hidden Valley’s Greg Reed<\/strong> lowered the 3A state record in the 200-yard free with a 1:42.09. \u00a0That swim cleared the 1:42.88 set by Brad Allison<\/strong> last year.<\/p>\n Reed then unloaded on the 500-yard free 3A state record. \u00a0He clocked a 4:34.24 in prelims before winning in 4:32.49. \u00a0Both swims downed the 4:36.01 set by Carter Kale<\/strong> last year.<\/p>\n Cave Spring’s Angelo Russo<\/strong> became the first 3A swimmer to break 50 in the 100-yard fly with a 49.97. \u00a0That lowered Khalil Fonder’s<\/strong> 3A mark of 50.32 from last year.<\/p>\n Russo doubled up with a pair of 3A records in the 100-yard back. \u00a0He posted a 50.08 in prelims before winning in 49.48. \u00a0Both beat Fonder’s previous record of 50.87 from 2015.<\/p>\n Western Albemarle’s Aaron James<\/strong> twice downed the 3A state mark in the 50-yard free. \u00a0He posted a 21.08 in prelims before winning in 20.85. \u00a0Will Orrison<\/strong> owned the previous mark with\u00a0a 21.17 from last year. James then doubled up with a 56.81 in the 100-yard free.<\/p>\n Hidden Valley’s Keith Myburgh<\/strong> claimed the 200-yard IM title in 1:51.69. Myburgh then doubled with a 56.51 to break the 100-yard breast 3A record. \u00a0That lowered the 57.60 set by Michael Craddock<\/strong> last year.<\/p>\n Tabb’s CJ Omweg, Chris Verastek, Nick Talati<\/strong> and Sean Du<\/strong> won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:37.78.<\/p>\n Western Albemarle’s AJ Donovan, August Lamb, Jason Heilman<\/strong> and Aaron James<\/strong> lowered the 3A state record in the 200-yard free relay with a 1:27.32. \u00a0That eclipsed the 1:28.63 set by Kettle Run last year.<\/p>\n Hidden Valley’s Greg Reed, Jackson Gray, Jason Hamilton<\/strong> and Keith Myburgh<\/strong> blasted the 3A record in the 400-yard free relay with a 3:11.69. \u00a0That cleared the 3:14.03 set by Lafayette a year ago.<\/p>\n Hidden Valley’s Jacob Smidt<\/strong> won the one-meter diving title with 318.00 points.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Western Albemarle High School swept the girls and boys titles at the Virginia 3A State High School Championships.
