Today is the last day of the 2016 Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships in Indianapolis, and the swims of the day thus far show no clear signs of exhaustion from the competing swimmers. The women\u2019s three meter diving prelims is ongoing, and the preliminary heats of the mile will begin at 3:45 p.m. Eastern time.<\/p>\n
In the men’s 200 yard backstroke, Denver\u2019s Anton Loncar<\/strong> set a new league championship record by a tenth with his winning time of 1:41.39. His prelim time is only a little over a second away from a NCAA A cut. His teammates Jared Smith<\/strong> and Luke Sloan<\/strong> rounded out the top three as well, swimming 1:44.98 and 1:49.92, respectively. Both Loncar and Smith met NCAA B time standards.<\/p>\n The women\u2019s 200 yard breaststroke was won handily by Amanda Sanders<\/strong> of Denver, crushing the field with a finishing time of 2:08.24. She is more than seven seconds under the NCAA B time standard, and less than three tenths away from earning her NCAA A cut. Teammates Bailey Andison<\/strong> touched second at 2:17.12 while Maddie Eyolfson<\/strong> grabbed third in 2:17.52.<\/p>\n The morning began with the women\u2019s 200 back, where University of Denver swimmer Morgan McCormick <\/strong>held an easy first place seed with a NCAA B standard time of 1:56.85. Teammate Lexie Malazdrewicz<\/strong> went into the meet with no entry time, but pulled off second place with a time of 1:59.96. Theresa Godlewski<\/strong> from the University of South Dakota and Alexis Bullard of IUPUI tied for third going into the night\u2019s finals, both touching the wall at 2:01.83.<\/p>\n The women\u2019s 100 yard freestyle was next, where the top five swimmers were all from the dominating Denver team. Johanna Roas<\/strong> led the way, breaking her league championship record from last year by a little over a tenth with her time of 49.08. Zoe Huddleston<\/strong> moved up into second, only fourteen hundredths away from a NCAA B cut. Lauren Moden<\/strong> sits in third with her preliminary time of 50.25<\/p>\n For the men, Denver placed Kyle Robrock<\/strong> and Ray Bornman<\/strong> in first and second, respectively. Robrock swam 43.72 and Bornman touched at 44.05. Each went under the NCAA B time standard. Ben Bolinske<\/strong> of South Dakota State University moved into third going into finals with a time of 44.88.<\/p>\n The men\u2019s 200 breast has league record holder Tim Cottam<\/strong> from Denver solidified his top spot for finals later with a NCAA B standard time of 1:58.88. IUPUI\u2019s Jonathan Stoller<\/strong> cruises to second in 2:02.41, while South Dakota State University\u2019s Wyatt Rumrill<\/strong> rounds out the top three with a time of 2:02.62. Two noticeable swims that made it into the A final for tonight are Western Illinois University\u2019s Chance McQuigg<\/strong> and his nearly ten second drop to snatch seventh along with Eastern Illinois University\u2019s Brandon Robbins<\/strong> and his seven second drop to grab the eighth spot.<\/p>\n The last event of the morning session was the 200 yard fly, where Heidi Bradley<\/strong> from Denver led the women with a time of 2:01.16. Teammate Grace Sommerville<\/strong> kept her second place seed with a time of 2:02.78, while University of Nebraska Omaha\u2019s Morgan Stepp<\/strong> was right behind in 2:02.78.<\/p>\n On the men\u2019s side, Denver took over the top three seeds going into tonight\u2019s A final.
