The Ephs tallied 657.5 points followed by Connecticut College with 545.5 points in second place. Amherst and Tufts are in third and fourth place, respectively, with 501 and 491 points.<\/p>\n<p>The session began with the 200-yard freestyle relay, in which the Williams College team of <strong>Jamie Finnegan<\/strong>, <strong>Curtis Maher<\/strong>, <strong>Grant Johnson<\/strong>, and <strong>Alex McCarter<\/strong> edged out Connecticut College with a time of 1:21.56, a new pool and meet record as well as an NCAA provisional time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jake Tamposi<\/strong> of Williams College captured the first individual event of the night, the 50-yard breaststroke, with a time of 25.17 seconds. The victory marked the fourth time in his career that he won the event. \u00a0His preliminary time from the morning session of 24.88 seconds broke the pool, meet, and NESCAC record. <strong>Timothy Kostolansky<\/strong> from Williams was victorious in the 50-yard butterfly, touching at 21.93. This was slightly off his pool, meet, and NESCAC record from the preliminary session (21.72).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Connor Haley<\/strong> gave Amherst its first win of the championship, winning the 500-yard freestyle with an NCAA provisional-qualifying time of 4:33.75. Williams\u2019 <strong>Benjamin Lin<\/strong> won the 50-yard backstroke for the third straight year after posting a time of 22.33 seconds. His time of 21.84 seconds from the preliminary session took the pool, meet, and NESCAC record by almost half a second.<\/p>\n<p>In his second individual win of the night, <strong>Timothy Kostolansky<\/strong> of Williams touched the wall in 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:50.99, an NCAA provisional mark.\u00a0 <strong>Theodore Pender<\/strong> from Bates took the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.73 seconds to conclude the individual swims for the evening.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Asher Lichtig<\/strong> earned a win on the diving board for Amherst in the 1-meter competition with an NCAA provisional score of 511.50.<\/p>\n<p>The evening concluded with the 400-yard medley relay, in which the Williams team of <strong>Benjamin Lin, Jake Tamposi, Timothy Kostolansky<\/strong>, and <strong>Curtis Maher<\/strong> touched out Amherst by almost four seconds with a time of 3:17.31, which was a new pool record and a NCAA provisional time.<\/p>\n<p>The meet will resume Saturday at 10 a.m. for the preliminaries and 5:50 p.m. for the finals at the Samuelson-Muir Pool.<\/p>\n<p><em>NESCAC contributed this report.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Team Standings<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Williams &#8211; 657.5<\/li>\n<li>Connecticut College &#8211; 545<\/li>\n<li>Amherst &#8211; 501<\/li>\n<li>Tufts &#8211; 491<\/li>\n<li>Bates &#8211; 352.5<\/li>\n<li>Middlebury &#8211; 340.5<\/li>\n<li>Bowdoin &#8211; 302.5<\/li>\n<li>Wesleyan &#8211; 183<\/li>\n<li>Hamilton &#8211; 174<\/li>\n<li>Colby &#8211; 161.5<\/li>\n<li>Trinity &#8211; 160<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Defending champion Williams College sits in the lead following day one of the 2016 NESCAC Men\u2019s Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Williams College.
