{"id":186217,"date":"2016-02-19T20:50:42","date_gmt":"2016-02-20T03:50:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=186217"},"modified":"2016-02-19T20:50:42","modified_gmt":"2016-02-20T03:50:42","slug":"reece-whitley-discusses-new-200-im-record-video","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/reece-whitley-discusses-new-200-im-record-video\/","title":{"rendered":"Reece Whitley Discusses New 200 IM Record (Video)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tonight during finals of day one at the 2016 Eastern Interscholastic Swimming and Diving Championships young breaststroke all-star\u00a0<strong>Reece Whitley<\/strong> of William Penn Charter took down the eighteen-year-old meet record in the men&#8217;s 200 IM and also nabbed the pool record.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/eCu__uutWhI\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The former record of 1:48.10 was set by\u00a0<strong>Nick Kaschik\u00a0<\/strong>in 1998. During prelims Whitley gently cruised to a final time of 1:51.39 putting a new meet record well into perspective.<\/p>\n<p><em>Swimming World\u00a0<\/em>was on hand to not only capture the race, but also got the chance to catch up with Whitley after finals to talk about the race.<\/p>\n<p>With the mention of this morning&#8217;s 1:51 Whitley noted that he felt shocked that he turned in as quick a time as he did because he was only two days rested. Despite the lack of taper the ever-humble Whitley praised the atmosphere of his team and the joyous feeling of competition from battling for the top relay spot with Peddie.<\/p>\n<p>Catching\u00a0<em>Swimming World\u00a0<\/em>publisher\u00a0<strong>Brent Rutemiller<\/strong> off guard was the phrase &#8220;baby phase&#8221; when discussing all strokes but breaststroke.
