﻿{"id":186202,"date":"2016-02-19T20:12:31","date_gmt":"2016-02-20T03:12:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=186202"},"modified":"2016-02-19T20:12:31","modified_gmt":"2016-02-20T03:12:31","slug":"186202-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/186202-2\/","title":{"rendered":"MIT&#8217;s Relay Record Highlights Night Two Of NEWMAC Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Chandler Brandes, Swimming World College Intern<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The MIT women&#8217;s 400 medley relay team highlighted Friday finals of the 2016 NEWMAC Swimming and Diving Championships, crushing the previous meet record by over four seconds.\u00a0Both the MIT men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s teams maintain a sizable lead after day two.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 Free Relay<\/h3>\n<p>MIT started the night off with a win in the 200 free relay.\u00a0<strong>Amanda Wu\u00a0<\/strong>(23.95),\u00a0<strong>Margaret Guo\u00a0<\/strong>(23.85),\u00a0<strong>Jessica Chen\u00a0<\/strong>(23.62), and\u00a0<strong>Veronica Jedryka\u00a0<\/strong>(22.97) won in 1:34.39.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 Free Relay<\/h3>\n<p>WPI&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>David Smallwood\u00a0<\/strong>(21.16),\u00a0<strong>Jack Bauer\u00a0<\/strong>(20.40),\u00a0<strong>Nathan Hughes\u00a0<\/strong>(20.37), and\u00a0<strong>Andrew Bauer\u00a0<\/strong>(20.05) combined to win in 1:21.98.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 500 Free<\/h3>\n<p>MIT freshman\u00a0<strong>Addie Chambers\u00a0<\/strong>won the event in 4:56.91, the only swimmer to crack five minutes. Clark&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Melissa Orzechowski\u00a0<\/strong>finished second in 5:01.84 and WPI&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jenny Day<\/strong> was third in 5:04.19.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 500 Free<\/h3>\n<p>MIT&#8217;s <strong>Josh Graves<\/strong> cruised to the win in the men&#8217;s 500, touching the wall in 4:29.99. The freshman&#8217;s time was .02 shy of\u00a0the meet record.<\/p>\n<p>Coast Guard&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Taylor Rowe\u00a0<\/strong>was second in 4:34.34 and MIT&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Thomas Norris\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 4:36.02.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 IM<\/h3>\n<p>The 200 IM title went to Mount Holyoke&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Cathleen Pruden<\/strong>, 2015 NEWMAC Swimmer of the Year. The senior finished with a time of 2:04.40.<\/p>\n<p>MIT&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jessica Chen<\/strong> touched second in 2:05.58 and Springfield&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emily Medeiros\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 2:09.50.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 IM<\/h3>\n<p>MIT&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Brandon McKenzie<\/strong> won the men&#8217;s event in 1:52.44. Coast Guard&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Dan Moreno<\/strong> was a close second in 1:52.60 as WPI&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Seth MacDonald<\/strong> rounded out the top three in 1:53.93.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 50 Free<\/h3>\n<p>Springfield&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Delaney Dyjak\u00a0<\/strong>topped the women&#8217;s sprint event in 23.53. MIT&#8217;s\u00a0Jedryka<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>touched second in 23.71 as her teammate<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Wu<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>placed third in 23.93.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 50 Free<\/h3>\n<p>MIT won their fifth event of the evening, as\u00a0<strong>Josh Tomazin\u00a0<\/strong>placed first in 20.82. WPI&#8217;s Bauer was second in 20.91 and MIT&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Daryl Neubieser<\/strong> and WPI&#8217;s Smallwood tied for third in 20.98.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 3m Diving<\/h3>\n<p>Wellesley&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Maura Sticco-Ivins\u00a0<\/strong>dove to first in the women&#8217;s 3m with a score of 529.50. Smith&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emily Stone\u00a0<\/strong>was second with 493.25 and MIT&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Morgan Matranga\u00a0<\/strong>was third with 490.15.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 400 Medley Relay<\/h3>\n<p>MIT finished their strong night by dominating the event. The team of Jedryka (55.45), Chen (1:02.71), Guo (55.40), and Wu (52.27) won in 3:45.83. The four swimmers, who earlier in the night won the 200 free relay,\u00a0crushed the old meet record by four seconds set by MIT back in 2013.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 400 Medley Relay<\/h3>\n<p>MIT&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Bo Mattix\u00a0<\/strong>(50.07),\u00a0<strong>Justin Chiu\u00a0<\/strong>(56.21),\u00a0<strong>Dougie Kogut\u00a0<\/strong>(48.92), and\u00a0Tomazin (44.89) won the final event of the day in 3:20.09.<\/p>\n<h3>Current Women&#8217;s Team Standings:<\/h3>\n<p>1.
