score for the Wolverines during day 3 prelims of the 2016 Big Ten Women&#8217;s Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan finished swimming with 20 finalists, including a whopping 10 A finalists (10\/5\/5). \u00a0Indiana, who had the most even day throughout, qualified 19 finalists (9\/6\/4). \u00a0Purdue stood third with 17 finalists, although 10 of those are set for the C finals (4\/2\/10).<\/p>\n<p>Ohio State (13) and Penn State (12) rounded out the top five with defending champion Minnesota falling back with just 9 finalists (5\/2\/2).<\/p>\n<p><strong>400 IM<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ohio State&#8217;s <strong>Lindsey Clary<\/strong> raced her way into the top seed in the distance medley event with a time of 4:07.05. \u00a0No one else came even close to her time. \u00a0Minnesota&#8217;s <strong>Brooke Zeiger<\/strong> qualified second in 4:09.98 with Michigan&#8217;s <strong>Bi Yirong<\/strong> taking third overall in 4:10.91.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana and href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/chinas-li-zhesi-hit-with-two-year-doping-ban\/\" target=\"_blank\">a former world record holder for China who also served a two-year doping suspension earlier in her career<\/a>, claimed Ohio State&#8217;s second top seed of the morning with a pool record time of 51.72. \u00a0That swim cleared the 51.85 set by <strong>Caroline Rodriguez<\/strong> of Michigan back in 2009 and put Li in line to lower the Big Ten record of 51.56 set by <strong>Mackenzie Powers<\/strong> of Penn State in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s a strong swim for Li, who just took down the 50 free last night.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana&#8217;s <strong>Gia Dalesandro<\/strong> finished second in 52.08 with Wisconsin&#8217;s <strong>Dana Grindall<\/strong> earning the third seed in 52.61 as the only other sub-53 swims of the morning.<\/p>\n<p>Following the 100 fly, Indiana pushed its finalist tally to 8 (4\/2\/2), while Purdue moved to 7 finalists broke a long standing pool record with a 1:44.36 to top the women&#8217;s 200-yard free. \u00a0That swim downed the 1996 facility standard of <strong>Martina Moracova<\/strong> when she swam a 1:44.64 for SMU.<\/p>\n<p>Lips was joined in the top 2 by teammate <strong>Kennedy Goss<\/strong>, who posted a 1:44.84 for the second seed.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan&#8217;s <strong>Siobhan Haughey<\/strong> led a trio of Wolverines into the A final with a third-seeded 1:44.94. \u00a0<strong>Gillian Ryan<\/strong> (1:46.30) and <strong>Gabriel DeLoof<\/strong> (1:46.42) also made the big final.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana had a big event in the 200 free with 2 up, 3 middle, 1 down to push their total finalists to 14 (6\/5\/3). \u00a0Michigan (5\/3\/2) and Purdue (3\/2\/4) each have 10 finalists after the 200 another 1-2 seed finish. \u00a0That swim broke the pool mark of 59.17 set by <strong>Jillian Tyler<\/strong> back in 2009. \u00a0King will now target Tyler&#8217;s conference mark of 58.08 from 2011.<\/p>\n<p>King&#8217;s teammate <strong>Miranda Tucker<\/strong> put up a 59.37 to qualify second, while Iowa&#8217;s <strong>Emma Sougstad<\/strong> (59.50) and Purdue&#8217;s<strong> Emily Fogle<\/strong> (59.61) also cleared 1:00 in prelims.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana made a big push in terms of point-scorers with 17 total finalists after the 100 breast (8\/5\/4). \u00a0Michigan continued to remain close with 14 finalists (6\/4\/4). \u00a0The biggest problem for Indiana, however, if you want to call it that is that most of their swimmers are all seeded at the top of their heats, while Michigan&#8217;s swimmers are all in the middle of their heats. \u00a0That means IU has to swim to their seeds to maximize points this evening.<\/p>\n<p>Purdue also stood at 14 finalists, but is DeLoof<\/strong> led qualifying in a time of 51.56, just off the pool record of 51.52 set by <strong>Kate Zubkova<\/strong> of Indiana. \u00a0Her teammates <strong>Clara Smiddy<\/strong> (52.24), <strong>Gabriel DeLoof<\/strong> (53.66) and <strong>Zoe Mattingly<\/strong> (53.76) also made their way into the A final for huge points.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana&#8217;s <strong>Marie Chamberlain<\/strong>
