﻿{"id":185971,"date":"2016-02-18T18:40:53","date_gmt":"2016-02-19T01:40:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=185971"},"modified":"2016-02-18T18:40:53","modified_gmt":"2016-02-19T01:40:53","slug":"denver-dominates-on-night-two-of-summit-league-championships","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/denver-dominates-on-night-two-of-summit-league-championships\/","title":{"rendered":"Denver Dominates on Night Two of Summit League Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Kaylie Noll, Swimming World College Intern<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The second night of finals for the 2016 Summit League Swimming and Diving Championships began with the 200 yard freestyle relays and ended with the women\u2019s one meter diving.<\/p>\n<p>The University of Denver women started off the night right\u00a0with a victory in the 200 freestyle relay, with <strong>Johanna Roas<\/strong> (22.93), <strong>Morgan Wice-Roslin<\/strong> (22.67), <strong>Lauren Moden<\/strong> (22.80), and <strong>Zoe Huddleston<\/strong> (22.37) teaming up to swim a new Summit league championship record of 1:30.77, beating last\u2019s year record of 1:30.90, also set by Denver last year. Silver went to IUPUI\u2019s <strong>Maranda Buha<\/strong> (23.35),<strong> Alexis Bullard<\/strong> (23.23), <strong>Madison Taylor<\/strong> (23.53), and <strong>Tori Kroon<\/strong> (22.96), swimming a 1:33.07. Bronze was South Dakota State University\u2019s, made up of <strong>Abby Zenner<\/strong> (23.50), <strong>Kristin Erf<\/strong> (23.44), <strong>Richelle Bruyckere<\/strong> (24.09), and <strong>Hadlie Overhue<\/strong> (23.70) racing to 1:34.73.<\/p>\n<p>In the men\u2019s 200 free relay, Denver\u2019s squad of <strong>Ray Bornman<\/strong> (20.10), <strong>Kyle Robrock<\/strong> (19.03), <strong>Anton Loncar<\/strong> (19.86), and<strong> Tim Cottam<\/strong> (19.43) won with a NCAA B standard time of 1:18.42. They also smashed the Summit league championship record of 1:20.25, set by Oakland in 2009. IUPUI finished second in this race, with <strong>Lennart Kuester<\/strong> (20.37), <strong>Aaron Brysch<\/strong> (20.43), <strong>Trenton Wolfe<\/strong> (20.01), and <strong>Jared Allen<\/strong> (20.04) teaming up to swim 1:20.85. Third went to South Dakota State University\u2019s <strong>Ben Bolinske<\/strong> (20.18), <strong>Pierce Oja<\/strong> (20.69), <strong>Tony Mikrut<\/strong> (20.55) and <strong>Daniel Jacobson<\/strong> (19.87), touching at 1:21.29.<\/p>\n<p>The 500 freestyle was a clean sweep by the Denver women, finishing first through seventh. <strong>Maddie Myers<\/strong> held her first place seed, swam a NCAA B cut, and set a new league championship record with her time of 4:45.30. Teammate <strong>Clara Jenck<\/strong> also made the NCAA time standard, finishing at 4:46.07, which was also under the previous league championship record of 4:46.18. Fellow Denver swimmer <strong>Grace Sommerville<\/strong> swam smart, dropping ten seconds from this morning to move up into third place with a time of 4:47.94.<\/p>\n<p>On the men\u2019s side, Denver\u2019s <strong>Dylan Bunch<\/strong> won with a NCAA B standard time by almost seven seconds. His time of 4:18.06 also broke his own league championship record from last year. Second place teammate <strong>Scott Bergstrom<\/strong> also made a NCAA B cut with a time of 4:24.70. Rounding out the top three was another Denver swimmer, <strong>Luke Williams<\/strong>, who touched the wall at 4:25.08.<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s 200 yard IM, <strong>Bailey Andison<\/strong> continued to drop time, finishing with an impressive 1:56.81, which also lowered her league championship record set during prelims. Teammates <strong>Johanna Roas<\/strong> and <strong>Amanda Sanders<\/strong> finished second in 1:59.01 and third in 1:59.59, respectively. The top four swimmers stayed under the NCAA B cut that they all performed this morning.<\/p>\n<p>In the men\u2019s 200 individual medley, <strong>Tim Cottam<\/strong> grabbed gold with a time of 1:47.87. Teammates <strong>Lane Bretschneider<\/strong> and<strong> Ben Severino<\/strong> made their NCAA B time standards this evening after being so close in prelims, touching second in 1:48.63 and third in 1:48.65, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The women\u2019s 50 yard freestyle was won by University of Denver\u2019s <strong>Morgan Wice-Roslin<\/strong>, touching the wall with her NCAA B standard time of 22.82. Like previous events, the Denver women took the top three spots: <strong>Zoe Huddleston<\/strong> grabbed second with a time of 23.03 while <strong>Lauren Moden<\/strong> touched at 23.13.<\/p>\n<p>For the men, the 50 yard freestyle was the only race where Denver did not finish 1-2-3. University of Denver\u2019s <strong>Kyle Robrock<\/strong> led the pack with a winning time of 19.65, but South Dakota State\u2019s <strong>Ben Bolinske<\/strong> held onto second, swimming 19.99 and breaking the 20 second barrier, and IUPUI\u2019s <strong>Lennart Kuester<\/strong> moved up into third with a finishing time of 20.27.<\/p>\n<p>The women\u2019s one meter diving competition concluded the evening, with University of South Dakota\u2019s <strong>Greysen Hertting<\/strong> winning as expected with a score of 293.35 and NCAA Zone diving standard.
