After setting a U.S. record in preliminaries, the sophomore posted an even faster time in Wednesday&#8217;s finals. The U.S. National Team member touched in 18.23, winning the race by almost a full second. Auburn&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Peter Holoda\u00a0<\/strong>was second with a time of 19.17, and Missouri&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Michael Chadwick\u00a0<\/strong>energized the home crowd with a third place finish.<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Michael Chadwick (SEC Championships)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PwsY9AC7QWY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>The eventful evening\u00a0started with a battle between teammates. Georgia seniors\u00a0<strong>Brittany MacLean\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Hali Flickinger\u00a0<\/strong>went back and forth in the women&#8217;s 500-yard freestyle. MacLean\u00a0ultimately touched first with a time of 4:33.10, the second-fastest mark\u00a0time in the country this season and a pool record. Flickinger touched in 4:33.90. Texas A&amp;M&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sarah Gibson\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 4:39.61.<\/p>\n<div class=\"oembed-wrap\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Brittany MacLean (SEC Championships)\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/w8PSUco5jxc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>Florida picked up major team points in the men&#8217;s 500-yard freestyle. Gator swimmers touched in first and third place.\u00a0<strong>Pawel Werner\u00a0<\/strong>led the way with nation&#8217;s second fastest time in 2016. The senior touched in 4:13.31.\u00a0<strong>Akaram Mahmoud\u00a0<\/strong>of South Carolina finished\u00a0less than two-tenths of a second later with a time of 4:13.31. The sophomore&#8217;s time was the fourth fastest in the nation this season. She was followed by teammate\u00a0<strong>Bethany Galat<\/strong>, who touched in 1:55.86. Missouri&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Clark Thomas\u00a0<\/strong>was second with a score of 429.40 and <strong>Sam Thorton\u00a0<\/strong>of\u00a0Texas A&amp;M was third, racking up 391.95 points.<\/p>\n<p>The day ended with the men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s 200-yard freestyle relay. The core of Tennessee sprinters brought home the win in the women&#8217;s event. The team consisted of Johnson,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Harper Bruens, <\/strong>Banic<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Kira Toussaint.\u00a0<\/strong>The Volunteer team posted a pool-record time of 1:27.36, the fastest time in the country.<\/p>\n<p>The Bulldog team of\u00a0Smoliga, Raab,\u00a0<strong>Kylie Stewart\u00a0<\/strong>and Flickinger touched second with a time of 1:28.70. Texas A&amp;M was third with a time of 1:29.07. The team consisted of\u00a0<strong>Lexie Lupton, Kristin Malone, Claire Brandt\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Beryl Gastaldello.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dressel found himself back atop the podium in the men&#8217;s 200-yard freestyle relay. The Alabama team of\u00a0<strong>Laurent Bams, Brett Walsh, Luke Kaliszak\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Kristian Gkolomeev\u00a0<\/strong>was third.<\/p>\n<p>Going into day three, Florida leads all men&#8217;s teams with 504 points. They are followed by Auburn (497) and Georgia (362). Tennessee is the leading women&#8217;s team with 437.5 points.
