Caeleb Dressel\u00a0<\/strong>sent ripples through the swimming community with a 18.39 preliminary time in the 50-yard freestyle. The time was an American record. The Florida sophomore’s big swim\u00a0was one of many highlights from Wednesday’s heats.<\/p>\n

The Georgia women showed off their depth in the 500-yard freestyle, placing four swimmers in the A final. The Bulldogs were led by\u00a0Hali Flickinger\u00a0<\/strong>who posted a time of 4:35.56 to lead all swimmers. She was followed by Texas A&M’s\u00a0Sarah Gibson\u00a0<\/strong>and Georgia’s\u00a0Brittany MacLean.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

South Carolina placed two swimmers in the men’s 500-yard freestyle top eight. Sophomore Akaram Mahmoud\u00a0<\/strong>led the way for the Gamecocks with a time of 4:12.78. He was followed by two Gators: junior\u00a0Mitch D’Arrigo\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0senior\u00a0Pawel Werner.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the women’s 200-yard individual medley, Texas A&M made a statement. The Aggies had the top three qualifying swimmers for the A final.\u00a0Sydney Pickrem\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 1:55.87 and was followed by\u00a0Lisa Bratton\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Bethany Galat.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Georgia’s\u00a0Gunnar Bentz\u00a0<\/strong>led the way in the men’s race. He posted a time of 1:43.21, just a hundredth of a second ahead of Auburn’s\u00a0Joe Patching.\u00a0<\/strong>Florida’s\u00a0Mark Szaranek\u00a0<\/strong>was third in the morning heats.<\/p>\n

In the women’s 50-yard freestyle, Georgia’s\u00a0Olivia Smoliga\u00a0<\/strong>posted a time of 21.80. Florida’s\u00a0Natalie Hinds\u00a0<\/strong>touched next in 21.92 and Tennessee’s\u00a0Madeline Banic\u00a0<\/strong>was third. Banic touched in 22.06.<\/p>\n

In the men’s 50-yard event, Dressel was followed by Alabama’s\u00a0Kristian Gkolomeev<\/strong>. Auburn’s\u00a0Peter Holoda\u00a0<\/strong>touched third and Missouri’s\u00a0Michael Chadwick\u00a0<\/strong>touched fourth.<\/p>\n
