{"id":185675,"date":"2016-02-17T16:14:56","date_gmt":"2016-02-17T23:14:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=185675"},"modified":"2016-02-17T17:07:30","modified_gmt":"2016-02-18T00:07:30","slug":"acc-day-1-recap-4pm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/acc-day-1-recap-4pm\/","title":{"rendered":"Relay Records Highlight Day One Of Women&#8217;s ACC Championships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Chandler Brandes, ACC Beat Writer<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The first day of the 2016 ACC Women&#8217;s Swimming and Diving Championships took place on Feb. 17 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.<\/p>\n<p>Day one finals results: <a href=\"\/results\/2016-womens-acc-day-one-finals-day-1\/ncaa-college\/2016\/February\/17\" target=\"_blank\">2016 Women&#8217;s ACC Day One Finals &#8211; Results<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The meet started off fast\u00a0with Louisville&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Alina Kendzior<\/strong>\u00a0(24.78),<strong> Andrea Cottrell<\/strong>\u00a0(26.35),<strong> Kelsi Worrell<\/strong>\u00a0(22.42),<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Mallory Comerford <\/strong>(21.88)\u00a0claiming first in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:35.43, breaking the ACC record of 1:35.88 set by Virginia last year.<\/p>\n<p>Virginia&#8217;s <strong>Courtney Bartholomew&#8217;s<\/strong>\u00a0(23.98),\u00a0<strong>Laura Simon\u00a0<\/strong>(26.76),\u00a0<strong>Ellen Thomas<\/strong> (22.99), and\u00a0<strong>Caitlin Cooper<\/strong> (21.84) took second in 1:35.57.\u00a0NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ashlyn Koletic<\/strong> (24.27),\u00a0<strong>Kayla Brumbaum<\/strong> (27.40),\u00a0<strong>Natalie Labonge\u00a0<\/strong>(23.16), and\u00a0<strong>Riki Bonnema <\/strong>(21.60) placed third in 1:35.57.<\/p>\n<p>NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Rachel Mumma<\/strong>\u00a0had a huge night, achieving her first ACC diving title. After qualifying as the top seed\u00a0in prelims, Mumma went on to win the 1m with a score of 331.85, bettering her score from the morning.\u00a0Miami also had an extremely impressive showing, as\u00a0<strong>Wally Leyland<\/strong> finished second (318.65) with teammate\u00a0<strong>Carolyn Chaney\u00a0<\/strong>taking third (318.05).<\/p>\n<p>Virginia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Leah Smith<\/strong>\u00a0(1:43.15),<strong> Megan Moroney<\/strong>\u00a0(1:45.96),<strong> Kaitlyn Jones<\/strong>\u00a0(1:45.31), and\u00a0<strong>Jen Marrkand\u00a0<\/strong>(1:45.56) won the 800 free relay in 6:59.98, setting a new meet and conference record.\u00a0Smith&#8217;s impressive leadoff split broke the ACC record in the 200 free, and her\u00a0time moves her to first in the country in the event this year.<\/p>\n<p>NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Rachel Muller<\/strong> (1:44.61),\u00a0<strong>Alexia Zevnik\u00a0<\/strong>(1:44.21),\u00a0<strong>Michelle Craddock\u00a0<\/strong>(1:45.81), and\u00a0Labonge (1:45.90) were also under the old ACC meet record, finishing second in 7:00.53 to hold of Louisville. That time broke their previous school record by over seven seconds. The Cardinal relay team of\u00a0<strong>Andrea Kneppers\u00a0<\/strong>(1:46.08),\u00a0<strong>Abbie Houck<\/strong> (1:44.97),\u00a0<strong>Marah Pugh\u00a0<\/strong>(1:46.32), and\u00a0Comerford (1:43.64) finished third in 7:01.01.<\/p>\n<p>Miami&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Briadam Herrera\u00a0<\/strong>won the men&#8217;s 3m with a score of 440.00, the\u00a0third career ACC title for the sophomore.\u00a0UNC&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jack Nyquist<\/strong> dove to second (435.60) and Pitt&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Dominic Giordano\u00a0<\/strong>took third (407.75).<\/p>\n<p>Current team standings after day one:<\/p>\n<p>1. Pitt-99<br \/>\n10. FSU-95<br \/>\n11. Boston College-60<br \/>\n12.
