Where and when did you start swimming?<\/b>
\nI've been swimming ever since I can remember. I took lessons at the Racquet Club in Memphis when I was three years old and was on the summer league team a year later.<\/p>\n
Who would you name as the most influential person and coach in your swimming career?<\/b>
\nMy former coach, Dave Smith, has had a huge influence on my swimming career. He could always keep me motivated and excited about swimming. Also, I would not be where I am without my parents driving me to swim practice, buying me countless suits and goggles, and encouraging me every step of the way. <\/p>\n
What, to this point, is your best moment in the sport and why?<\/b>
\nOne of my favorite races I ever swam was the 100 butterfly at the southern zone meet last year. I was seeded seventh into finals but came back to win the event from lane one. I could feel the team's excitement the whole time I was swimming\u2014it was just a really fun race. <\/p>\n
Walk us through a day of practice:<\/b>
\nOn a typical Monday during the school year, I practice from 5 to 6:30 in the morning. We do all kinds of dryland work\u2014biking, running stairs, medicine balls, and weights\u2014and finish up with about a 1000-2000 meter recovery swim. Then, in the afternoon, we swim anywhere from 7000 to 8500 yards, with one or two sets at race pace. <\/p>\n
What is your favorite set?<\/b>
\n40 x 50s \u2013 16, every fourth one fast, 12, every third one fast, 8, every other one fast, and 4 all out. We do this set about once a month, but I never get tired of it. <\/p>\n
What is your least favorite set?<\/b>
\nWe do sets of 100s where we swim 50 meters and then get out and sprint 50 meters from a dive. After about 10, I am struggling to get out of the pool and falling off the block. It's really dangerous. <\/p>\n
What are your short-term goals?<\/b>
\nRight now, I am mainly focused on swimming best times at junior nationals and starting the recruiting process. <\/p>\n
What are your long-term goals?<\/b>
\nLong-term, I want to be a valuable member of my college team, make finals at NCAAs, and qualify for a national team. <\/p>\n
How is the recruiting process going?<\/b>
\nIt's exciting! Right now, I am just trying to learn about as many schools as possible so I can find one that fits me in every way.<\/p>\n
Is there anything else interesting that you'd like our readers to know about you?<\/b>
\nI have many leather-bound books, and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.<\/p>\n
