The swimmer, who has chosen to remain anonymous, filed a civil suit the previous week seeking more than $50,000 in damages. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The suit claims that the school \u201callowed Shoulberg to continue coaching despite the many verified claims of abuse [by athletes] that occurred during his tenure.\u201d In a statement addressing the lawsuit, Germantown Academy said \u201cThese allegations were investigated and addressed by Germantown Academy as soon as they came to the attention of the administration. She also attempted to apologize to the team. This has been an ongoing investigation through much of this season. Maureen\u2019s husband, Pat Mead, resigned from the head coaching position at Towson University back in December after Maureen was removed from her position. Entering into the new year, the Towson squad had <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/towson-university-concedes-to-team-request-names-jake-shrum-acting-head-coach\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an all new coaching staff led by first year assistant <\/span><b>Jake Shrum<\/b><\/a><b>. <\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Swimming World <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will continue to update this story as it develops, as the Meads will still be hearing from USA Swimming regarding their chances of ever being allowed on a pool deck in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>The Week That Was #3 &#8211; Queens Dominates Bluegrass Conference Meet<\/strong><\/h3>\n<div id=\"attachment_127225\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/queens-400-free-relay\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-127225\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-127225\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-127225\" src=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/03\/queens-400-free-relay-ncaa-dii-2015-4635-700x500.jpg\" alt=\"queens-400-free-relay-\" width=\"700\" height=\"500\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-127225\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo Courtesy: Peter H. Bick<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Queens University dominated this past week\u2019s Bluegrass Conference Meet, which saw some of the best teams from Division II and Division III meet in Rock Hill, SC. A standout among the Queens squad was <\/span><b>Patricia Castro Ortega<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who had an incredible meet where she set six NCAA Division II records. She started on her record streak on the first night as a part of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/queens-dominates-night-1-of-bluegrass-mountain-conference-championships\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">two record setting relays while also leading off the 800 free relay with a new DII record in the 200 freestyle (1:44.44)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. On the second night, <\/span><b>Castro Ortega <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">claimed marks in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/patricia-castro-ortega-sets-another-ncaa-dii-record-at-bmc\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the 500 freestyle (4:40.65) and as part of the 400 medley relay, splitting 53.49 on the fly leg<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. She concluded <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/184928-2\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">her meet with an NCAA record in the 400 IM (4:09.93)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/queens-wins-2016-bluegrass-mountain-conference-championship\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a meet record in the 100 freestyle (49.13).<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The only other Division II record from the meet belonged to Queens\u2019 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/184928-2\/\"><b>Dion Dressens <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the 200 freestyle (1:34.20)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who beat the previous record by .01 of a second. Bick<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/30-for-30-carmel-girls-stands-alone-with-30-consecutive-indiana-state-championships\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Carmel Girls Swim program won their 30th straight high school state championship title this past week<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That makes the Carmel swim program the longest state championship streak of any high school sport in any state in the country. Senior <\/span><b>Claire Adams <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">helped lead her team to the title en route to completing a perfect 16-16 record in IHSAA state championships races. Fellow senior <\/span><b>Veronica Burchill<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> had the lone state record on the day as she took out the 100 fly with a 51.79. That swim just missed <\/span><b>Katie McLaughlin\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 51.53 national record as well as <\/span><b>Beata Nelson\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 51.70 public school record. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There were only two non-Carmel swimmer to take a state titles. Those titles belonged to Hamilton Southeastern\u2019s <\/span><b>Robyn Clevenger<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who won the 50 free in 22.91, and Yorktown\u2019s <\/span><b>Emily Weiss<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who won the 100 breast at 1:02.20. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/carmel-wins-record-breaking-30th-state-high-school-title-in-swimming-video-highlights\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Carmel finished the meet with a total of 438 points in a dominant win<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. There was a lot of fast swimming in Division III this weekend that gave a preview of what to expect at NCAAs in just over a month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most notable DIII match-up was in the NCAC Championships, where rivals Denison University and Kenyon College battled it out. The meet was a split, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ncac-saturday-pm\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with the Denison men winning the title win 1942.5 &#8211; 1,714.5, while the Kenyon women prevailed 1,957.5 &#8211; 1,787.5<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This was the eighth consecutive conference title for the Big Red men, who will be looking to break Kenyon\u2019s three-year stranglehold on the NCAA team title. Look for both teams to be significantly faster in March as they prepare to battle it out among the best teams in the country. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the east coast, the NESCAC women\u2019s conference saw Williams College finish over 700 points ahead of second place finisher Amherst to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nescac-sunday-pm\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">take their fifteenth straight conference title<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Williams junior <\/span><b>Megan Pierce <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was the star of the lady Ephs, taking home titles in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nescac-saturday-pm\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the 400 IM (4:17.47)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nescac-sunday-pm\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">1650 freestyle (16:41.90), and 200 butterfly (2:02.07)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Notably, Amherst senior <\/span><b>Emily Hyde <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">set a new conference and NCAA record in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nescac-sunday-pm\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the 200 breaststroke (2:12.22)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and was just off Lindsay Payne\u2019s NCAA record in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nescac-saturday-pm\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the 100 breaststroke (1:00.99)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, setting herself up as the favorite in those events at NCAA\u2019s in March. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Not to be left out, sophomore <\/span><b>Tommy Thetford <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of Washington &amp; Lee was on fire at the ODAC meet, posting fast times en route to wins in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/odac-friday-am\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">50 (19.70)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/odac-saturday-pm\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">200 (1:37.70)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/odac-sunday-pm\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">100 freestyle (43.95)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>Thetford <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also put up an impressive 18.99 relay split on the back of W&amp;L\u2019s winning 200 free relay. Those 50 and 100 freestyle times place <\/span><b>Thetford <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">first in the nation among DIII swimmers while his 200 times put him second.
