The second and final day of the 2016 TISCA Tennessee High School Swimming & Diving Championships concluded with athletes participating in the 100 free, 500 free, 200 free relay, 100 back, 100 breast, and 400 free relay.<\/p>\n
Harpeth Hall took home the first place trophy after accumulating a stunning 234.5 points. Second went to St. Mary’s Episcopal School, while the Baylor School rounded out the top three with 163.5 points.<\/p>\n
Riley Gaines<\/strong> of Station Camp and\u00a0Tatum Wade<\/strong> of Christ Presbyterian Academy battled for first in the 100 free finishing a slim .03 seconds apart. A faster second 50 from Gaines propelled her to the wall where she stopped the clock at 49.36 over Wade’s 49.39.<\/p>\n Hardin Valley’s\u00a0Erica Laning<\/strong> slashed 11.15 seconds off her prelims time of 4:53.94 to claim first and a new state record in the 500 free. Laning’s 4:42.79 overturned Tatum Wade’s 4:44.00 record from 2015.<\/p>\n Harpeth Hall’s\u00a0Emily Jenkins<\/strong> (25.99),\u00a0Ophelia Pilkinton<\/strong> (23.75),\u00a0Ella Nelson<\/strong> (23.54), and\u00a0Julia Eskew<\/strong> (23.15) posted a combined time of 1:36.43 to grab first in the 200 free relay. Second went to Science Hill and their time of 1:38.99, while Brentwood Academy took third with a time of 1:40.01.<\/p>\n Susanna LaRochelle<\/strong> of Girls Preparatory won the 100 back with a final time of 54.81, almost duplicating her prelims time of 54.82. Second went to\u00a0Mary Brakefield\u00a0<\/strong>of Hillsboro who posted a time of 55.13. Brentwood Academy’s\u00a0Kiley Vandevier<\/strong> was third with a 56.26.<\/p>\n Allison Raab<\/strong> of Christian Brothers posted a final time of 1:00.95 to win gold in the 100 breaststroke. Eskew took second with a time of 1:01.94.<\/p>\n Harpeth Hall’s Nelson (51.08),\u00a0Kate Mabry<\/strong> (55.17), Pilkinton (51.65), and Eskew (50.56) ended the meet on a high note with a combined time of 3:28.46 for first in the 400 free relay. St. Mary’s claimed second with a time of 3:29.66, while third went to Hardin Valley and their time of 3:31.15.<\/p>\n Memphis University School turned in a final total of 344.5 points for first in the championships. Baylor School took second with a total of 295 points, while third and went to the men of Science Hill High School and their 188 points.<\/p>\n Knoxville Catholic’s\u00a0Alec Connolly<\/strong> finished first in the 100 free with a time of 45.09.\u00a0Joshua Walsh<\/strong> of Collierville and\u00a0Henry Keel\u00a0<\/strong>of Memphis University tied for second with a final time of 45.21. Memphis University teammate\u00a0Christian Berry<\/strong> was an incredibly close fourth with a final time of 45.22.<\/p>\n Trey Freeman<\/strong> of Baylor outlasted the competition in the 500 free winning with a final time of 4:22.48, nearly ten seconds ahead of the competition. STEM’s\u00a0Alex Hines<\/strong> finished second with a time of 4:32.25, while Baylor’s\u00a0Peter Lochmaier<\/strong> took third with a 4:37.14.<\/p>\n Baylor’s relay team of\u00a0Matthew Boyer<\/strong> (21.74),\u00a0Gershwin Greene<\/strong> (20.67),\u00a0Jack Best<\/strong> (20.78), and Freeman (19.99) grabbed first in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:23.18. The group of four finished a slim .46 seconds off the existing state record of 1:22.72 held by The Baylor School.<\/p>\n University School of Jackson’\u00a0Daniel Whisenant<\/strong> powered to a first place finish in the 100 back with a time of 48.64. Memphis University’s\u00a0Alex Robinson<\/strong> put up a strong fight for second, finishing with a time of 48.75.<\/p>\n Daniel Chang<\/strong> of Science Hill surged to a new state record in the 100 breaststroke stopping the clock at a swift 53.94. Chang’s time betters\u00a0Ethan Browne’s\u00a0<\/strong>2015 record of 54.75 by almost a second.<\/p>\n Memphis University’s\u00a0Robinson (45.78),\u00a0Jack McCaghren<\/strong>, Berry, and Keel (45.79) slashed their prelims time of 3:10.20 with a combined time of 3:02.84, good enough for a new state record in the 400 free relay.
