MONTERREY, Mexico, July 9. THE second night of competition at the World Youth Championships came to a close in Monterrey, Mexico.<\/p>\n
Russia's Elena Sokolova dominated the women's 800 free to start the second night of swimming. She checked in with a time of 8:32.75 to emerge with the title. Katie Gardocki of the U.S. placed second in 8:37.08, while Venezuela's Andreina Pinto finished third in 8:37.82.<\/p>\n
New Zealand's Daniel Bell followed with a triumph in the men's 100 back when he touched in 55.32. Australia's Benjamin Treffers placed second right behind in 55.77 with Great Britain's Chris Walker-Hebborn taking third in 56.04.<\/p>\n
The next title went to Japan's Natsuki Akiyama when she clocked a 2:08.10 in the women's 200 fly. Germany's Nina Schiffer wound up second in 2:09.36, while Japan's Yui Miyamoto snared third in 2:09.41.<\/p>\n
Russia's Danila Izotov won his second title of the meet, adding the 200 free to the 400 free from yesterday. Izotov turned in a 1:47.63, while Great Britain's Robert Bale snagged second in 1:49.44. Germany's Lucien Hassdenteufel rounded out the top three in 1:49.72.<\/p>\n
The U.S. then went 1-2 in the women's 50 breast. Kasey Carlson posted a time of 31.81, while Laura Sogar claimed second in 31.94. Canada's Amanda Reason finished third in 32.02.<\/p>\n
In the men's 100 breast, Great Britain's Daniel Sliwiniski claimed the title in 1:02.19. Germany's Marco Koch took second in 1:02.56, while Serbia's Caba Siladji touched just behind with a 1:02.57 for third.<\/p>\n
The women's 100 back featured a battle between Australia's Grace Loh and Elizabeth Pelton of the U.S. Pelton led at the halfway mark with a 29.83, while Loh won in 1:02.02 with a 31.90 backhalf. Pelton placed second in 1:02.37, while Canada's Tess Simpson finished third in 1:02.96.<\/p>\n
Germany's Dimitri Colupaev captured the men's 200 IM title in 2:02.28, with James Surhoff of the U.S. touching second in 2:02.51. Japan's Yuya Horihata claimed third in 2:02.99.<\/p>\n
