{"id":184846,"date":"2016-02-12T21:35:23","date_gmt":"2016-02-13T04:35:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=184846"},"modified":"2016-02-12T21:35:23","modified_gmt":"2016-02-13T04:35:23","slug":"2016-utah-high-school-state-meets-skyview-girls-viewmont-boys-take-5a-titles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2016-utah-high-school-state-meets-skyview-girls-viewmont-boys-take-5a-titles\/","title":{"rendered":"2016 Utah High School State Meets: Skyview Girls, Viewmont Boys Take 5A Titles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Lillian Nelson, Swimming World College Intern<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Diving in to day two at Brigham Young&#8217;s aquatic center for the 2016 Utah High School State Meets, the\u00a0<strong>4A\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>3A\u00a0<\/strong>classifications completed the first half of each of their events, while\u00a0<strong>5A<\/strong> completed the second half of theirs.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning in the 4A classification, the Women&#8217;s 200 Medley Relay was a close race to the finish, with\u00a0<strong>Kearns High School\u00a0<\/strong>(<strong>Biesinger<\/strong>,<strong> Plaudis<\/strong>,<strong> Hamlin<\/strong>, and<strong> Martz<\/strong>) coming in first with a time of 1:51.51. Kearns was followed by\u00a0<strong>Skyline High School\u00a0<\/strong>(<strong>Fillerup<\/strong>, <strong>Prince<\/strong>, <strong>Goodson<\/strong>, and <strong>Dibble<\/strong>) in second place, and\u00a0<strong>Corner Canyon High School<\/strong> (<strong>Nguyen<\/strong>, <strong>Miller<\/strong>, <strong>Maires<\/strong>, and <strong>Barlow<\/strong>) rounding off the top three.<\/p>\n<p>The Men&#8217;s 200 Medley Relay was another close race, but ultimately Skyline High School&#8217;s team of\u00a0<strong>Newbold<\/strong>, <strong>Jackman<\/strong>, <strong>Zini<\/strong>, and <strong>Beseris<\/strong> came out on top with a time of 1:38.41.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meghan Rainier\u00a0<\/strong>(1:54.01)\u00a0took the title in the Women&#8217;s 200 Freestyle. Senior\u00a0<strong>Jaron Nelson<\/strong> came out on top on the men&#8217;s side with a blazing time of 1:40.92, dropping over three seconds from his entry time.<\/p>\n<p>Other individual event winners include\u00a0<strong>Makayla Cazier\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Anthony Puertas<\/strong> (200 IM), and\u00a0<strong>Aleah Griffin\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Adam Shelton<\/strong>\u00a0(50 Freestyle).<\/p>\n<p>The next session in the water was the first half of the\u00a0<strong>3A<\/strong> events.<\/p>\n<p>The 200 Medley Relay titles were both taken by\u00a0<strong>Park City High School<\/strong>, with the women (<strong>Selznick<\/strong>, <strong>Hess<\/strong>, <strong>House<\/strong>, and <strong>Hale<\/strong>) touching at 1:47.83, and the men (<strong>Peterson<\/strong>, <strong>McMullin<\/strong>, <strong>Bailar<\/strong>, and <strong>Djunic<\/strong>) coming in at 1:40.57.<\/p>\n<p>Individual event winners of this session include <strong>Siena Senn<\/strong> and <strong>Lucas Hess<\/strong> (200 Freestyle), <strong>Katelyn Gross<\/strong> and<strong> Jinwon Bailar<\/strong> (200 IM), and <strong>Rozie Selznick<\/strong> and <strong>Nathan Wallace<\/strong> (50 Freestyle).<\/p>\n<p>The second half of the 3A events will be swum tomorrow morning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5A\u00a0<\/strong>took the water for the third and final session of the day, finishing up the second half of their events. Beginning with the 100 Butterfly, where\u00a0<strong>Rhyan White\u00a0<\/strong>(55.27) touched first for the women and\u00a0<strong>Jarod Arroyo<\/strong> (50.74) came out on top for the men.<\/p>\n<p>White came back again in the 100 Backstroke and dominated the field, touching first at 53.45.<\/p>\n<p>Other individual event winners of the evening include\u00a0<strong>Claire Jackson<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Brock Harries<\/strong> (100 Freestyle),\u00a0<strong>Rachel Butler\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Drew Bonner\u00a0<\/strong>(500 Freestyle),\u00a0<strong>Adam Edwards\u00a0<\/strong>(100 Backstroke), and\u00a0<strong>Mariah Gassaway\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Jonah Simon\u00a0<\/strong>(100 Breaststroke).<\/p>\n<p>The 200 Freestyle Relays were close races on both the men&#8217;s and women&#8217;s side with\u00a0<strong>West High School\u00a0<\/strong>(<strong>Wolfgramm<\/strong>, <strong>Sherman<\/strong>, <strong>Dixon<\/strong>, and <strong>Wolfgram<\/strong>) touching first among the women, and\u00a0<strong>Brighton High School\u00a0<\/strong>(<strong>O&#8217;Neal<\/strong>, <strong>Binder<\/strong>, <strong>Wiest<\/strong>, and <strong>Harries<\/strong>) touching first among the men.<\/p>\n<p>Closing off the session for the 5A Classification were the 400 Freestyle Relays. <strong>Skyview High School<\/strong>\u00a0(<strong>Miggin<\/strong>, <strong>Bingham<\/strong>, <strong>Christiansen<\/strong>, and <strong>Brimhall<\/strong>) took the title for the women with a time of 3:40.54.
