{"id":184444,"date":"2016-02-10T15:04:49","date_gmt":"2016-02-10T22:04:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=184444"},"modified":"2016-02-10T15:05:56","modified_gmt":"2016-02-10T22:05:56","slug":"former-towson-coach-maureen-mead-gets-3-years-probation-in-peeping-tom-plea-deal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/former-towson-coach-maureen-mead-gets-3-years-probation-in-peeping-tom-plea-deal\/","title":{"rendered":"Former Towson Coach Maureen Mead Gets 3 Years Probation in Peeping Tom Plea Deal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former Towson University head diving coach <strong>Maureen Mead<\/strong> drew three years of probation after a peeping tom plea deal was made today according to WJZ in Baltimore.<\/p>\n<p>During her final court hearing, Mead &#8220;tearfully apologized to the team&#8221; after admitting that she\u00a0set up a cell phone to record the conversations of diving members following practices.<\/p>\n<p>According to WJZ, the &#8220;seven women in the locker room at the time of the filming spoke in the courtroom of betrayed trust.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>News first broke about an investigation into <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/investigation-opened-into-towson-womens-swimming-locker-room-videotaping\/\" target=\"_blank\">locker room videotaping at Towson back in October<\/a> of last year.<\/p>\n<p>A month later, with very little information on the investigation coming from Towson University to the swimming and diving team with Maureen&#8217;s head coach husband <strong>Pat Mead<\/strong>\u00a0still in charge of the squad, the team <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/towson-tigers-planning-peaceful-boycott-of-pittsburgh-dual-meet\/\" target=\"_blank\">broke news via <em>Swimming World<\/em> that it planned to boycott the Pittsburgh dual meet<\/a> that weekend.<\/p>\n<p>With the added pressure of a public boycott along with student newspaper Torchlight filing a Freedom of Information Act request with the university, news broke that both <strong>Maureen Mead<\/strong> and assistant coach <strong>Adrienne Phillip<\/strong>s were on administrative leave pending the end of the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The next day, with more public pressure mounting, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/towson-university-concedes-to-team-request-names-jake-shrum-acting-head-coach\/\" target=\"_blank\">Towson announced that it would name first-year assistant coach <strong>Jake Shrum<\/strong> as the Acting Head Coach<\/a>, while the athletics department also hired <strong>Tim Perkins<\/strong> to temporarily replace Maureen as the diving coach.<\/p>\n<p>A week later, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/towsons-maureen-mead-charged-with-3-counts-in-connection-with-video-recording\/\" target=\"_blank\">Maureen was indicted\u00a0with a felony in connection with the video recording and was let go by the university<\/a>.
