﻿{"id":184242,"date":"2016-02-13T18:31:24","date_gmt":"2016-02-14T01:31:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=184242"},"modified":"2016-02-13T19:22:07","modified_gmt":"2016-02-14T02:22:07","slug":"odac-saturday-pm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/odac-saturday-pm\/","title":{"rendered":"Washington and Lee Generals Shine Again At ODAC Night Two"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Cathleen Pruden, Swimming World College Intern<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Women&#8217;s Meet:<\/h2>\n<p>Washington and Lee started the night in winning fashion, beating their own meet and open record in the 200 medley relay.\u00a0<strong>Stephanie Foster<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Sarah Schaffer<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Kira Tomenchok<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Elle Chancey\u00a0<\/strong>went a 1:45.46, a half second under the NCAA B cut. Emory and Henry&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jessica Richardson<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Michaela Nolte<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Claire Goodrum<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Taylor Guardalabene\u00a0<\/strong>snagged second (1:47.96). Randolph-Macon was back at 1:51.92 for third, with the team of\u00a0<strong>Kata Kylliainen<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Alexis Campbell<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Rachel Leigh<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Megan Granger<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>W&amp;L teammates\u00a0<strong>Haylee Rademann\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Emma Swabb\u00a0<\/strong>had a great race in the 400 IM. Rademann lead the entire way, and held on for the win, 4:38.66 to 4:38.88. Guardalabene finished third in a 4:44.83.<\/p>\n<p>The Generals swept the podium in the 100 butterfly.\u00a0<strong>Cassidy Fuller\u00a0<\/strong>lowered her prelims ODAC records, stopping the clock at 56.84 tonight. Tomenchok settled for second in 58.36 while\u00a0<strong>Mara Tynan\u00a0<\/strong>finished third (59.15).<\/p>\n<p>W&amp;L teammates\u00a0<strong>Elisabeth Holmes\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Elle Chancey\u00a0<\/strong>swam an intense race in the 200 freestyle. Chancey closed strong, but Holmes\u00a0was first to the wall, breaking her own meet and ODAC record with a final time of 1:52.66, ahead of Chancey&#8217;s 1:52.92. Both swimmers slid under the NCAA B cut. Teammate\u00a0<strong>Jordan Watson\u00a0<\/strong>finished third (1:56.37).<\/p>\n<p>Nolte couldn&#8217;t quite match her morning speed, but the Wasps&#8217;s Junior was still first to the wall in a 1:04.50, for the 100 breaststroke title. Schaffer finished second (1:06.68), while Hollins&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Claire Webber\u00a0<\/strong>rounded out the top three (1:07.31).<\/p>\n<p>W&amp;L&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emily Rollo\u00a0<\/strong>managed to go even faster tonight, dropping the ODAC records to 55.73 in the 100 backstroke. Teammate<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Stephanie Foster\u00a0<\/strong>was just out touched by E&amp;H&#8217;s<strong>\u00a0<strong>Jessica Richardson\u00a0<\/strong><\/strong>58.06 to 58.10.<\/p>\n<p>Despite not quite repeating their speed from the individual 200s, the Generals ran away with the 800 freestyle relay. Watson, Tynan,\u00a0<strong>Abigail Sterns<\/strong>, and Holmes stopped the clock at 7:50.85. The Wasps turned in a second-place 8:02.72 with swims from\u00a0<strong>Holly Roth<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Claire Goodrum<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Marina Moore<\/strong>, and Guardalabene. The Yellow Jackets rounded out the top three as Kylliainen,\u00a0<strong>Mollie Smith<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Sierra Collins<\/strong>, and Granger recorded an 8:07.21.<\/p>\n<h2>Men&#8217;s Meet:<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Tommy Thetford\u00a0<\/strong>proved that last night&#8217;s 18.99 split was not a fluke, clocking a 19.10 on the 200 medley relay tonight. He combined with teammates\u00a0<strong>Andrew Botelho<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Trent Babcock<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Thomas Ferguson\u00a0<\/strong>for an ODAC record and NCAA B cut time of 1:31.79. Randolph-Macon was well back in second.\u00a0<strong>Ivan Fadeyev<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Josh Carter<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Robert Redenz<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Mohamed Saleh\u00a0<\/strong>stopped the clock at 1:36.54.\u00a0<strong>Hudson Elmore<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>John Dickerson<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Conor O&#8217;Heir<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Ryan Mitchell\u00a0<\/strong>earned third (1:41.24) for Hampden-Sydney.<\/p>\n<p>Fadeyev came up short of his own record, but still won the Conference Title with a 4:06.46 in the 400 IM.\u00a0<strong>Thomas Caldwell<\/strong> finished second (4:08.01) for the Generals, while his freshman teammate\u00a0<strong>Austin Jennings\u00a0<\/strong>touched third (4:11.63).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Noah Schammel\u00a0<\/strong>(50.51),\u00a0Ferguson (50.91), and\u00a0<strong>Austin Choi\u00a0<\/strong>(53.05) completed a podium sweep for the Generals in the 100 butterfly. W&amp;L swept the podium again in the 200 freestyle. Thetford decimated his own meet (1:43.62) and open (1:40.29) records, touching the wall in 1:37.76.\u00a0<strong>Sam Childress\u00a0<\/strong>was just off the old meet record in 1:43.65, just ahead of teammate\u00a0<strong>Corey Connelly\u00a0<\/strong>(1:43.70).<\/p>\n<p>Randolph-Macon&#8217;s<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Redenz<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>was back to top form tonight, beating his own ODAC records in the 100 breaststroke. The Junior&#8217;s 57.54 finished well ahead of teammate\u00a0Carter (59.62) in third and W&amp;L&#8217;s Babcock (58.71) in second.<\/p>\n<p>Saleh was dominant in the 100 backstroke, finishing in 51.45, nearly two seconds ahead of Botelho (53.13). W&amp;L&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Patrick Lawrence\u00a0<\/strong>finished third (54.00).<\/p>\n<p>In the 800 freestyle relay, W&amp;L put together a team of Connelly, Caldwell,\u00a0<strong>Thomas Agostini<\/strong>, and Childress to finish in 7:00.71. The Yellow Jackets&#8217; Redenz,\u00a0Carter, Fadeyev, and\u00a0<strong>Daniel Whitehead\u00a0<\/strong>touched in 7:12.53 for second.
