With the time, Forde reached the Olympic &quot;B&quot; qualifying standard.<\/p>\n<p><b>BOLIVIA<\/b> <i>(BOL)<\/i><br \/>\n<i>May 21&#8211;<\/i>The Bolivian Swimming Federation is reportedly petitioning FINA to change their swimmer invited to compete at the 2008 Olympics. FINA recently invited Katherine Moreno to participate at the Games, based off her performance at the 2007 Worlds. FEBONA, however, would like to move this invitation to Karen T\u00f3rrez, based on her recent performances at last month&#39;s Latin Cup in San Marino where she set 10 Bolivian Records.<\/p>\n<p><b>BRAZIL<\/b> <i>(BRA)<\/i><br \/>\n<i>May 12&#8211;<\/i>Results from the <a href=http:\/\/www.cbda.org.br\/especiais\/marialenk2008\/ target=_blank>2008 Brazilian Swimming Nationals<\/a>, the Maria Lenk Trophy, are available via the link. The meet was held May 6-11 in Rio de Janeiro. Following the meet, Brazil&#39;s swimming teams for the <a href=http:\/\/www.cbda.org.br\/especiais\/marialenk2008\/materia.php?mat_id=9289 target=_blank>2008 Olympics (19)<\/a> and <a href=http:\/\/www.cbda.org.br\/especiais\/marialenk2008\/materia.php?mat_id=9288 target=_blank>2008 Youth Worlds (21)<\/a> were announced.<\/p>\n<p><b>CANADA<\/b> <i>(CAN)<\/i><br \/>\n<i>May 7&#8211;<\/i>Canada will send a <b>24-swimmer team to the 2008 Youth Worlds<\/b> in Monterrey, Mexico, July 8-13.  Team members are: Hassaan Abdel-Khalik, Hillary Bell, Michael Cai, Genevieve Cantin, Vanessa Charron, Kendra Chernoff, Zack Chetrat, Alexandra Gabor, Barbara Jardin, Daniel Jensen, Scott Jessett, Ameison King, Bogdan Knezevic, Curtis Lutsch, Dominique Massie-Martel, James McQuade, Amanda Reason, Hannah Riordan, Chelsey Salli, Paige Schultz, Lindsay Seemann, Tess Simpson, Zach Summerhayes and Matthew Swanston. Swim Canada has also announced a <a href= https:\/\/www.swimming.ca\/DialogPopUp.aspx?id=687&#038;table=1 target=_blank>41-swimmer team the 2008 Tri-Nations Cup<\/a> for its tri-meet versus France and Great Britain in August: the Tri-Nations Cup.<\/p>\n<p><i>May 14&#8211;<\/i>A recap of the <a href=http:\/\/www.synchro.ca\/e\/documents\/duetcombo.pdf target=_blank>2008 Canadian National Synchro Championships<\/a>, which included the selection of Canada&#39;s Junior National team can be found at the link. Team members are: Marie-Pier Boudreau-Gagnon, Jessika Dubuc, Marie-Pierre Gagne, Dominika Kopcik, Eve Lamoureux, Tracy Little, Elise Marcotte, Isabelle Rampling and Jennifer Song.<\/p>\n<p><i>May 24&#8211;<\/i>Synchro Canada will host a <b>FINA Development Clinic<\/b> for synchronized swimming coaches and judges, <b>August 31-September 3, 2008, in Calgary<\/b>, Alberta. <a href=http:\/\/www.synchro.ca\/e\/documents\/FINADevelopmentClinic.pdf target=_blank>Registration form<\/a> is due by June 30, 2008.<\/p>\n<p><b>COLOMBIA<\/b> <i>(COL)<\/i><br \/>\n<i>May 22&#8211;<\/i>To date, <a href=http:\/\/www.fecna.com\/uploads\/clasificados%20beijing%202008.pdf target=_blank>3 Colombian swimmers and 3 divers have qualified 2008 Olympics<\/a>. The swimmers are Camilo Becerra, Carolina Colorado, and Omar Pinz\u00f3n; divers are Diana Pineda, Victor Ortega and Juan Guillermo Ur\u00e1n Salazar.<\/p>\n<p><b>MEXICO<\/b> <i>(MEX)<\/i><br \/>\n<i>May 8&#8211;<\/i>Results from the swimming portion of <a href=http:\/\/www.fmn.org.mx\/micrositios\/onal08\/ target=_blank>Mexico&#39;s 2008 National Olympiad<\/a> have been posted online. Results from the Age Group and Elite portions of the event are available at the link. Both the Elite Swimming (April 27-May 1) and Age Group Swimmer (May 3-7) were held in Monterrey, Nuevo Le\u00f3n. The Elite portion also served as Mexico&#39;s Olympic and Youth Worlds trials.<\/p>\n<p><i>May 23&#8211;<i>The Mexican Swimming Federation has announced a 36-swimmer team for the 2008 Youth Worlds, which Mexico will host in Monterrey, July 8-15, as well as team members for the 2008 North America Challenge Cup in August and the swimming portion of June&#39;s CAMEX Championships in San Jos\u00e9, Costa Rica. The meet was held May 1-4 in Austin, Texas.<\/p>\n<p><i>May 8&#8211;<\/i>The USA finished 4<sup>th<\/sup> in the overall team standings at the <a href=http:\/\/www.omegatiming.com\/openwater\/racearchives\/2008\/sevilla2008\/index.htm target=_blank>2008 Open Water World Championships<\/a> in Seville, Spain, May 3-8.  The USA was lead by medal finishes by Chloe Sutton in the women&#39;s 5K (third) and Mark Warkentin in the men&#39;s 25K (second).<\/p>\n<p><b>VENEZUELA<\/b> <i>(VEN)<\/i><br \/>\n<i>May 22&#8211;<\/i>The Venezuelan Swimming Federation, Federaci\u00f3n Venezolana de<br \/>\nDesportes Acu\u00e1ticos (FEVEDA), has announced an 11-swimmer team (4 girls, 7 boys) for this<br \/>\nsummer&#39;s Youth Worlds, in Monterrey, Mexico. Team members are: Crox Acu\u00f1a, Elimar Barrios, Eliana Barrios, Jonny Castillo, Miguel Ferreira, Gabriel Huen, Rub\u00e9n Machado, Octavio Marcano, Jos\u00e9 Olivar, Andre\u00edna Pinto and Erika Torrellas,<\/p>\n<p><b>OTHER<\/b><br \/>\n<i>Apr.30&#8211;<\/i>LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND&#8211;<a href= http:\/\/www.fina.org\/project\/index.php?option=com_content&#038;task=view&#038;id=1097&#038;Itemid=108 target=_blank>FINA has announced the drug testing statistics from the 2008 Short Course Worlds<\/a> held April 9-13 in Manchester, UK. 174 total tests were administered, 60 of which also test for EPO. In total, 116 athletes from 29 countries were test; there were no positive<br \/>\nresults.<\/p>\n<p><i>May 4&#8211;<\/i><b>Five<\/b> swimmers from the Americas <b>qualified for the 2008 Olympics 10K<\/b> swim at the <a href=http:\/\/www.omegatiming.com\/openwater\/racearchives\/2008\/sevilla2008\/index.htm target=_blank>2008 Open Water World Championships<\/a>, May 3-8 in Seville, Spain. The top-10 finishers in the men&#39;s and women&#39;s 10K races in Seville qualified for the Olympic 10K race, as well as the next fastest continental swimmer from a country without someone in the top-10. <b>Olympic qualifiers<\/b> were: <b>Ana Marcela Cunha<\/b>, Brazil (10<sup>th<\/sup>); <b>Luis Escobar<\/b>, Mexico (Americas men&#39;s qualifier); <b>Poliana Okimoto<\/b>, Brazil (6<sup>th<\/sup>); <b>Andreina Pinto<\/b>, Venezuela (Americas women&#39;s qualifier); and <b>Mark Warkentin<\/b>, USA (7<sup>th<\/sup>).<\/p>\n<p><i>May 7&#8211;<\/i>FINA announced the schedules for the <a href= http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/lane9\/news\/18004.asp?q=FINA%20World%20Open%20Water%20Championships:%20FINA%20Pro%20Open%20Water%20Races%20in%202009 target=_blank>2009 FINA open water circuits<\/a>. The 2009 10K series will feature 14 races, with 5 in the Americas (Brazil, Canada, Mexico, and 2 in the USA); the 2009 Open Water series of races over 10K will feature 10 races, the first 3 in Argentina, the fourth race in Mexico and the eight and ninth races in Canada.<\/p>\n<p><i>May 13&#8211;<\/i>The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has posted online a Olympic and Paralympic issue of <a href=http:\/\/www.wada-ama.org\/en\/dynamic.ch2?pageCategory.id=779 target=_blank>WADA&#39;s Play True<\/a> magazine.<\/p>\n<p><i>May 16&#8211;<\/i>On May 13, the <a href=http:\/\/www.tas-cas.org\/d2wfiles\/document\/1042\/5048\/0\/Award%201373.pdf target=_blank>Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) denied FINA&#39;s appeal to hear the case of Brazilian&#39;s Rebeca Gusm\u00e3o<\/a>, sighting that FINA first needs to hear the case. CAS has recommended that the case be heard by FINA&#39;s Doping Panel. Following this, <a href= http:\/\/www.fina.org\/project\/index.php?option=com_content&#038;task=view&#038;id=1159&#038;Itemid=126 target=_blank>on May 17, FINA banned Gusm\u00e3o for two years beginning November 2, 2007<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><i>May 16&#8211;<\/i>The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has posted the <a href=http:\/\/www.wada-ama.org\/en\/newsarticle.ch2?articleId=3115618 target=_blank>revised International Standards for both Testing (IST) and Therapeutic Use Exemptions (ISTUE)<\/a>.
