THE first day of the Scottish National Open Championships featured an invasion from the French.<\/p>\n<p>Alain Bernard, the world-record holder in the men&#39;s 100 free with a 47.50 from the European Championships, put together a strong time of 48.07 to win the event.  Other French sprinters, Boris Steimetz (50.37) and Clement Lefert (50.70) rounded out the top three.<\/p>\n<p>The women&#39;s 200 freestyle featured a strong French contingent of Camille Muffat, Coralie Balmy, Aurelie Muller and Sophie Huber, along with local talent in Hannah Miley.  Balmy scored the gold medal with a 1:58.25, while Muffat finished second in 1:58.30.
