WEST POINT, New York, June 26. ARMY head swimming & diving coach Mickey Wender announced hiring of Jillian Wyrick as an assistant coach for the Black Knights. Wyrick comes to the banks of the Hudson River following stops that included New Mexico State and Yale after an All-America swimming career at Amherst College.<\/p>\n
"Everyone associated with Army Swimming and Diving is thrilled to welcome Jillian to our staff," said Wender. "There is no doubt that she has the experience, energy, and expertise needed to help move our program to the next level. I was immediately impressed by her commitment to the mission and values of West Point. She understands what this place is all about and has embraced my vision for the future of Army Swimming. Jillian is definitely one of those people who makes everyone around them better and it is obvious that she is a great fit for this school and this program. We're honored that she decided to join the Army swimming and diving family."<\/p>\n
At New Mexico State, Wyrick's duties included serving as recruiting coordinator and academic liaison in addition to coordinating travel. Last year, Wyrick helped lead the Aggie women to their highest finish ever at the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championship with a fifth-place effort, while four school records fell during the season. The campaign was also highlighted by the program's first dual meet victory over archrival New Mexico in over 25 years. <\/p>\n
The previous season, Wyrick was a member of a Yale staff that guided both the men's and women's squads to third-place finishes at the Ivy League Championships as the Bulldogs broke a combined 21 school records in the process. In addition to her coaching duties, she was responsible for compliance, team results, scouting reports and event management while also working with the strength and conditioning staff.<\/p>\n
The daughter of former Army football team captain Ken Wyrick (USMA '71), she began her coaching career as an assistant at Division III Hamilton College in 2005.<\/p>\n
A native of Avon, Conn., Wyrick graduated from Amherst in 2005 as an 11-time Division III All-American, while setting five school records during her four years with the Lord Jeffs. After earning a bachelor's degree in psychology, Wyrick left the Western Massachusetts college with the all-time fastest times in the 50, 100 and 200 breaststrokes, while also rewriting the 100 and 200 individual medley marks.<\/p>\n
