From the first event on, scrapping to be the first hand on the wall proved to be the only guarantee for a victory.<\/p>\n
The 200 Medley Relay was a tick for tack, with different stroke strengths surging throughout the event. \u00a0Ultimately it was\u00a0Hillgrove\u00a0<\/strong>with the quartet of\u00a0Brady<\/strong> Fields’\u00a0<\/strong>solid lead in Backstroke (23.14<\/strong>),\u00a0Tory Bartlett<\/strong>‘s quick Breaststroke\u00a0(27.30)<\/strong>,\u00a0Cullen Fields <\/strong>blazing butterfly leg, (22.34<\/strong>), and\u00a0Max LaRoque<\/strong>‘s explosive anchor leg\u00a0(21.44<\/strong>)\u00a0who were able to pull it out at the end. \u00a0Grabbing a win with the amazing time of\u00a01:34.22\u00a0<\/strong> the quartet was the fastest of the top three teams sub\u00a01:35. \u00a0Collins Hill\u00a0<\/strong>nipping at Hillgrove’s heels finished with a quick\u00a01:34.56<\/strong>. \u00a0John’s Creek\u00a0<\/strong>captured third with a solid\u00a0!:34.98<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Michael Taylor<\/strong> a Junior from Johns Creek<\/strong>,\u00a0carried out the race plan with the grace of an experienced veteran, cruising into victory with a statement time of\u00a01:37.04<\/strong>. \u00a0He led the race from start to finish touching over two seconds ahead of\u00a0Jack DaMolin\u00a0<\/strong>who took home silver posting the sub\u00a01:40 time of\u00a01:39.47<\/strong>. \u00a0Ryan Pilkington\u00a0<\/strong>closed out third with a strong Marton Barta<\/strong> held on after a close first half of the 200 IM, exerting a powerful breaststroke leg that allowed him to turn for home with a gold medal finish. \u00a0Barta won the event with a\u00a01:48.63<\/strong>\u00a0to hold off Senior\u00a0Alex Taylor\u00a0<\/strong>(1:49.33<\/strong>). Taylor made a push the last\u00a050, but\u00a0Barta’s Breaststroke proved too great to be overtaken.<\/p>\n The ultimate sprint showdown- the 50 Free- undoubtedly belonged to Senior\u00a0Eric Strickland\u00a0<\/strong>from\u00a0Norcross<\/strong>. \u00a0The only swimmer to be sub 10 seconds at the 25, Strickland barreled down the home stretch exploding into the wall with a\u00a020.36<\/strong>. \u00a0Junior\u00a0Jonathan Vater\u00a0<\/strong>snuck in for a respectable second place (21.09<\/strong>) just five hundredths ahead of third place finisher\u00a0Brady Fields\u00a0<\/strong>(21.14<\/strong>).<\/p>\n After the diving finals were added in, the journey to team victory looked to be a fight between Collins Hill<\/strong> and Brookwood<\/strong> with 127 and 122 points respectively.<\/p>\n Jared Chulavatr\u00a0<\/strong>blew away his competition in the 100 Butterfly, stopping the clock with the only sub 50 time in the field of a\u00a049.10<\/strong>. \u00a0Chulavatr had a lead by over four tenths at the half way mark and grew his lead throughout the rest of the race. \u00a0Cullen Fields\u00a0<\/strong>was able to get his hands on the wall with the quick time of\u00a050.01<\/strong>, being so very close to breaking that legend sub-50 level. \u00a0Billy\u00a0Rothery<\/strong> was in the mix as well, just a few blinks behind Fields with an impressive\u00a050.07<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Erick Strickland\u00a0<\/strong>came back for the 100 Free and demonstrated his mastery of the sprinting art, demolishing any hesitation that he is the true 6A sprinting king. Although seeded third, Strickland smashed the men’s final, dominating the field by over a second, with a\u00a044.76<\/strong>. \u00a0He was the only swimmer in the heat, to not only take it out, but come back with a 50 sub 24 seconds. \u00a0Colin Riley\u00a0<\/strong>captured second place, touching the clock with a\u00a045.96<\/strong>. \u00a0And\u00a0Kevin Zhou\u00a0<\/strong>the top seed coming into tonight, finished third with\u00a045.99<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n In the 200 Free Relay,\u00a0Brookwood\u00a0<\/strong>seized the opportunity for points and gutted it out to win the event with a total time of\u00a01:24.34<\/strong>. \u00a0The quartet of\u00a0Alex Taylor\u00a0<\/strong>(20.83<\/strong>),\u00a0Jacob Rees\u00a0<\/strong>(20.92<\/strong>),\u00a0Hans Kind<\/strong>\u00a0(21.77<\/strong>), and\u00a0Andrew\u00a0Huenniger\u00a0<\/strong>(20.82<\/strong>) maintained their lead throughout the race. \u00a0Northview<\/strong> finished just a half a second behind\u00a01:24.93<\/strong> to gain a silver.<\/p>\n After the relay,\u00a0Brookwood<\/strong> rose to first, passing Collins Hill<\/strong> with a lead of 37 points.<\/p>\n Michael Taylor\u00a0<\/strong>made his mark in history during the 100 Back, setting the state record with an awe raising\u00a047.17<\/strong>. \u00a0With a lead of over a second at the 50, Taylor took this opportunity and drove home, splitting an amazing\u00a024.36\u00a0<\/strong>in the last half of the race. \u00a0Taylor Delk\u00a0<\/strong>pushed to capture the silver, touching the wall at\u00a049.46<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The 100 Breaststroke proved to be an epic showdown, as the top three finishers touched the wall within two tenths of each other. \u00a0Ultimately it was\u00a0Collins Hill<\/strong>‘s\u00a0Andrew Winton<\/strong>, who held onto his lead from the 50, to stop the clock first, with a clutch\u00a056.61<\/strong>. \u00a0He got his hands on the wall just as\u00a0Marton Barta\u00a0<\/strong>(56.78<\/strong>) and\u00a0Jared Chulavatr\u00a0<\/strong>(56.81<\/strong>)\u00a0surged the last 50 for home.<\/p>\n Brookwood\u00a0<\/strong>used its momentum from its last relay win to spring forth another victory in the 400 Free Relay. \u00a0The quartet of\u00a0Marton Barta<\/strong>\u00a0who had just completed a nail biting 100 Breaststroke put forth a solid split,\u00a0<\/strong>(46.01<\/strong>),\u00a0Andrew\u00a0<\/strong>Cunninger<\/b> (46.09<\/strong>),\u00a0Jacob Rees\u00a0<\/strong>(46.04<\/strong>) and the amazing speed of anchor\u00a0Alex Taylor\u00a0<\/strong>(45.24<\/strong>) were able to hold off\u00a0Northview\u00a0<\/strong>(3:06.85<\/strong>) for the win.<\/p>\n With two relay golds in their pocket, and dominating individual swims,\u00a0Brookwood\u00a0<\/strong>was named the new reigning state champions for the 6A class of Georgia.<\/p>\n Men’s Team Scores:<\/strong><\/p>\n 1. the\u00a0Brookwood\u00a0<\/strong>group fought to win the gold. \u00a0It came down to the substantial lead put forth in the first part of the race that allowed the quartet of\u00a0Maddy Cohen\u00a0<\/strong>(25.91<\/strong>),\u00a0Erin Scott\u00a0<\/strong>(29.20<\/strong>),\u00a0Devan Sweeney\u00a0<\/strong>(24.58<\/strong>) and\u00a0Leila Taylor\u00a0<\/strong>(24.01<\/strong>) were able to fight off\u00a0Lambert\u00a0<\/strong>to grasp the championship in a winning time of\u00a01:43.70. \u00a0<\/strong>Merely three tenths behind,\u00a0Lambert\u00a0<\/strong>took home the silver with a\u00a01:44.02.<\/strong><\/p>\n Lauren Case\u00a0<\/strong>a senior from\u00a0Woodstock<\/strong> absolutely demolished her competition cruising in for sweet gold with a strategically crafted\u00a01:45.85<\/strong>. \u00a0Out in a shocking\u00a050.87<\/strong>,\u00a0Case powered through the last 100 to claim her victory. \u00a0Emma Walton<\/strong> touched the wall for second with a solid\u00a01:48.68<\/strong>, with less than a second lead over third place\u00a0Emma Layton\u00a0<\/strong>(!:49.42<\/strong>).<\/p>\n In the 200 IM\u00a0Devan Sweeney\u00a0<\/strong>put her heart on the line through the last 50 to come back for the win in a\u00a02:01.66<\/strong>. \u00a0Leading the first 100,\u00a0Sweeney was momentarily overtaken by\u00a0Evie Bragg\u00a0<\/strong>during the ultimate judgement of the Breaststroke leg. \u00a0As they turned for home,\u00a0Sweeney and Bragg were in a almost dead tie, as Sweeney laid it all out to come back for the win. \u00a0Bragg took home the silver with the very respectable time of\u00a02:02.52<\/strong>, just four hundredths ahead of bronze finalist\u00a0Caroline Aikins\u00a0<\/strong>(2:02.56<\/strong>).<\/p>\n Tatum Smith\u00a0<\/strong>made an enormous statement in the definitive sprint event- the 50 Free. \u00a0Charging down the second 25, Smith smashed into the wall with a wondrous\u00a023.25<\/strong>. \u00a0Slamming in for second was\u00a0Katherine Aikins\u00a0<\/strong>(23.36<\/strong>), and in third was\u00a0Chantal Jordan<\/strong>, a Freshman, with a\u00a023.70<\/strong>.<\/p>\n After the diving was added in, the team championship was a four way fight. \u00a0With\u00a0Walton\u00a0<\/strong>at\u00a0137\u00a0<\/strong>points,\u00a0Lassiter\u00a0<\/strong>132.5,\u00a0Lambert 130\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Brookwood 105.5,\u00a0<\/strong>it was still anyone’s game.<\/p>\n Lauren Case\u00a0<\/strong>proved that she’s no one trick pony, not only obliterating the 100 Butterfly field, but also coming within a half second of Olympian\u00a0Kathleen Hersey<\/strong>‘s 2008 state record. \u00a0Case made it clear that the race was hers, owning it from the very start until she stopped the clock at\u00a052.28<\/strong>. \u00a0Addie Bullock\u00a0<\/strong>a Freshman from\u00a0Kennesaw Mountain\u00a0<\/strong>put up an impressive and huge drop from yesterday with a\u00a054.29\u00a0<\/strong>to take home the silver. \u00a0Devan Sweeney\u00a0<\/strong>was third with a respectable\u00a054.52.<\/strong><\/p>\n The battle for gold in the leg burning, stomach churning, ugly brother of the 50- the 100 Free, was between\u00a0Maddy Cohen and Emma Cole. \u00a0<\/strong>Despite a courageous push for home, it was Cohen’s halfway lead that resulted in her gold medal finish, stopping the clock at\u00a050.23<\/strong>. \u00a0Cole punched in right behind her with\u00a050.30<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Emma Layton\u00a0<\/strong>took control of the 500 Free, maintaining a slight lead over silver medalist\u00a0Haley Arner<\/strong>, to become the state champ in the winning fashion of a 4:51.69<\/strong>. \u00a0Arner touched with a respectable\u00a04:53.22\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Bayley Frierson\u00a0<\/strong>surged to get her hands on the wall for third with a grit filled\u00a04:54.75<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Walton\u00a0<\/strong>put up an dominating performance for the all important 200 Free Relay. \u00a0With an all around amazing effort put forth by the quartet of\u00a0Evan\u00a0Arsenault\u00a0<\/strong>(24.36<\/strong>),\u00a0Gabbie Gauntt\u00a0<\/strong>(23.57<\/strong>),\u00a0Melissa Cox\u00a0<\/strong>(23.64<\/strong>) and the applause worthy finish of\u00a0Emma Cole\u00a0<\/strong>(22.90!<\/strong>) the total time of\u00a01:34.47<\/strong> beat out second place finisher\u00a0Pope\u00a0<\/strong>(!:36.62<\/strong>) noticeably.<\/p>\n Katherine Parker\u00a0<\/strong>blew away the field in the 100 Backstroke, stopping the clock with a breathtaking\u00a054.09<\/strong>. \u00a0She led the race with power from start to finish, holding off second place\u00a0Maddy Cohen\u00a0<\/strong>(55.30<\/strong>).<\/p>\n Lexi Glunn<\/strong>‘s pure speed and power shined through as she cruised to a victory in the 100 Breaststroke with a\u00a01:02.89<\/strong>. \u00a0With a lead from the first 50 on, Glunn was the obvious winner. \u00a0Silver medalist Sheri\u00a0Schreiber\u00a0<\/strong>was a solid performer as well, touching the wall with a\u00a01:03.72<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Walton\u00a0<\/strong>took control of the 400 Free Relay coming from behind the last leg to claim the gold medal. \u00a0The quartet of\u00a0Gabbie Ganutt\u00a0<\/strong>(53.07<\/strong>),\u00a0Melissa Cox\u00a0<\/strong>(52.84<\/strong>),\u00a0Evan\u00a0Arsenault\u00a0<\/strong>(53.18<\/strong>) and the heroic efforts of\u00a0Emma Cole\u00a0<\/strong>who blew away the field putting up a\u00a049.33<\/strong>, touched the wall with a collective time of\u00a03:28.42<\/strong>, just ahead of rival\u00a0Johns
