{"id":183103,"date":"2016-02-05T11:35:04","date_gmt":"2016-02-05T18:35:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=183103"},"modified":"2016-02-05T12:13:34","modified_gmt":"2016-02-05T19:13:34","slug":"183103-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/183103-2\/","title":{"rendered":"SCSU&#8217;s Katie Crochet Breaks Her Own 50 Free Record at NE-10 Prelims"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Delaney Lanker, Swimming World College Intern<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This morning the Southern Connecticut&#8217;s men and women teams set themselves up well for the Day 2 finals of the Northeast 10 Conference Championships.\u00a0Bentley and Assumption also are also in good position for tonight&#8217;s finals.<\/p>\n<p>For the men, SCSU started the off the morning with senior<strong> Louis Geist <\/strong>(4:36.75)\u00a0and junior <strong>Dylan Swanepoel<\/strong> (4:38.58) taking first and second in the 500 freestyle. Bentley&#8217;s <strong>Owen Karl<\/strong> finished third in the time of 4:39.48.<\/p>\n<p>Southern Connecticut senior, <strong>Raymon Cswerko<\/strong>, is seeded first going into finals tonight in the 200 IM with a time of 1:53.50 Behind him, Le Moyne&#8217;s <strong>Travis May<\/strong> (1:55.17) and SCSU&#8217;s <strong>Christopher Curtin<\/strong> (1:55.21) fought it out in a close finish for second in third seed going into tonight&#8217;s finals.<\/p>\n<p>SCSU&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Brendan Murphy<\/strong>\u00a0touched first in the 50 freestyle in a time of 21.05 with\u00a0PACE&#8217;s <strong>Nianzhong Liu<\/strong> (21.15) and SCSU teammate <strong>Tyler\u00a0Vander Vos<\/strong> (21.22) finishing right behind him in second and third.<\/p>\n<p>Southern Connecticut Sophomore,<strong> Katie Crochet<\/strong> crushed her own NE-10 record in the 50 freestyle prelims this morning. She bested her 2015 time of a 24.09 with a 23.57. With this time, Crochet is going in first by almost a second ahead of Le Moyne&#8217;s <strong>Tara O&#8217;Donnell<\/strong> who touched in at a 24.33 for a second place seed tonight. Bentley&#8217;s junior <strong>Kaitlin McGahie<\/strong> came in third with a 24.39. In order to make it into the top 8 tonight, all of the women had to go under 25 seconds.<\/p>\n<p>Also on the women&#8217;s side, Southern Connecticut&#8217;s<strong>\u00a0Sydney Fromkin<\/strong> is going into tonight seeded first in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:06.50. Assumption&#8217;s <strong>Shannon\u00a0Quirk<\/strong> follows with a 5:08.48 and SCSU&#8217;s <strong>Jenni\u00a0Belanger<\/strong> came in third with a 5:09.45.<\/p>\n<p>Assumption&#8217;s <strong>Niamh Morgan<\/strong> is seeded first in the 200 IM after touching the wall with a 2:07.04.
