The 1-5A Georgia High School State Swimming and Diving Championships kick off this weekend, February fourth through the sixth. \u00a0 With diving preliminaries beginning Thursday, prelims for swimming Friday and finals on Saturday, the competition is looking fierce.<\/p>\n
On the men’s side, The Westminster School is coming in very strong. \u00a0Seeded first in all three relays, Westminster is only a little over three tenths off the 6A GHS State record set in 2014. \u00a0Other quick swims to keep your eyes out for include Dean Farris<\/strong>, a senior from Paideia High School, ranked first in the 100 fly, less than half a second off the 2014 state record, as well as second in the 200 free. \u00a0Although the upperclassmen seem to be looking dominant in the psych sheet, be open for the younger grades to make a splash as well. \u00a0Freshman Liam Bell<\/strong> is ranked first in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 200 IM, surrounded by Juniors and Seniors seeded directly above and below him.<\/p>\n On the women’s side, Pace Academy is looking strong, seeded first in both the 200 Medley Relay and 400 Free Relay. \u00a0With the quartet consisting of exclusively upperclassmen, their competition will have to race against experience. \u00a0In the mid distance scene, Junior Caitlyn McHugh<\/strong> from Allatoona High School is seeded first in both the 200 free and 500 free. \u00a0Alexandria Ham<\/strong> from Kell High school is seeded first in the 100 backstroke and the 200 IM. \u00a0Wesleyan High School is also looking strong, seeded first in the 200 freestyle relay, although they are only a mere five hundredths ahead of Druid Hills High School.<\/p>\n The exciting event takes place at Georgia Tech Campus in Atlanta, GA.
