Mount St. Mary’s University, based in Maryland, will add an NCAA Division I men’s swimming and diving program to the mix starting with the 2016-17 academic year. \u00a0The school made the announcement in a press release.<\/p>\n
Mount St. Mary’s Press Release:<\/strong><\/p>\n Mount St. Mary\u2019s University announced the expansion of its NCAA Division I athletics program through the addition of men\u2019s swimming and diving.\u00a0 The team will compete as an independent beginning with the upcoming 2016-17 academic year.<\/p>\n The announcement was made by Mount St. Mary\u2019s University President Simon P. Newman<\/strong> at the Mount\u2019s annual sports hall of fame induction ceremony held on January 30.\u00a0 Men\u2019s swimming and diving becomes the 17th<\/sup> NCAA Division I sport at the Mount, encompassing 17 teams and 315 student-athletes.<\/p>\n \u201cMount St. Mary\u2019s has one of the longest traditions of sports excellence of any member of the NCAA, excellence that is measured in terms of meeting the highest standards of sportsmanship and student-athlete success in addition to games and championships won,\u201d said Simon P.
