CHARLOTTE, North Carolina, June 9. YESTERDAY, the Charlotte UltaSwim came to a successful close with a few meet records taking a fall.<\/p>\n
Ava Ohlgren cleared Caitlin Leverenz' meet record of 2:13.80 in the women's 200 IM set in 2007 with a top time of 2:12.97. Her effort is among the top 15 in the world this year. Emily Kukors placed a distant second with a time of 2:16.25, while Daphne Skelos took third in 2:18.66.<\/p>\n
Elizabeth Beisel, 15, of Bluefish followed with a meet record of her own in the women's 200 back. She clocked a time of 2:11.94 to dip under the 1992 standard of 2:12.49 set by Lea Loveless, now Lea Maurer and the head coach of women's swimming at Stanford. Julianne McLane placed second in 2:14.36, while Daphne Skelos of Long Island finished third in 2:15.04.<\/p>\n
Cullen Jones, now swimming at SwimMAC-Carolina, snatched .2 seconds from Cesar Cielo's 2007 meet record in the men's 100 free. Jones turned in a time of 49.37, surpassing Cielo's 49.57 from a year ago. Benjamin Hockin of Great Britain took second in 50.37, just edging Mike Smit of SwimMAC's third-place 50.38.<\/p>\n
In the distance events, Kelsey Ditto of Athens Bulldog topped the women's 1500 free in 16:40.13, while UT's Aleksa Akefelds placed second in 16:43.82. North Carolina's Whitney Sprague rounded out the top three in 16:49.30.<\/p>\n
Troy Prinsloo of Athens Bulldog collected another distance victory, this time with a time of 8:01.74 in the men's 800 free. Ricardo Monasterio of Gator Swim took second in 8:06.69, while Sebastian Rouault of Athens Bulldog finished third in 8:08.02.<\/p>\n
The sprint breaststroke events followed with Kathleen McDonnell of Virginia Aquatics downing UT's Michele King, 32.64 to 32.80, in the women's 50 breast. Lauren Norberg touched out twin Lindsey, 16, of Ithaca Aquatics for third, 33.14 to 33.15.<\/p>\n
Mark Gangloff of SwimMAC posted one of the top times in the world from this weekend in the men's 50 breast with a 27.74. Genaro Prono of Pine Crest took second in 28.71, while Joel Cross of Coast Guard finished third in 28.83.<\/p>\n
In the men's 200 IM, Canadian Keith Beavers posted a convincing win with a time of 2:01.37. Geoff Rathgeber placed second in 2:04.62, while SwimMAC's Paul Parmenter took third in 2:05.90.<\/p>\n
Doug Van Wie, also of SwimMAC, won the men's 200 back in 2:00.44, while Canadian Matthew Swanston finished second in 2:02.30. Steve Mellow of Marlins-Wolfpack completed the podium with a time of 2:02.64.<\/p>\n
In one of the last events of the evening, Kara Denby collected the women's 100 free title in 55.22. Terra Wilson of SwimMAC took second in 55.83, while Emily Kukors finished third in 55.97.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
