But it was German <\/span><b>Marco Koch<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/marco-koch-blasts-14th-fastest-200-breast-all-time\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">unleashed one of the fastest men\u2019s 200-meter breaststrokes of all time at the 2016 Luxembourg Euro Meet<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who posted the most impressive performance of this past week. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Koch <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">touched the wall in 2:07.69 to record the fastest January 200 breaststroke of all-time and 14th fastest overall. <\/span><b>Koch <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katinka-hosszu-sets-fastest-january-200-im-ever-at-ffn-golden-tour-stop\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">destroyed the previous fastest January 200 breaststroke, which he set last week in France with a 2:09.31<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That time is actually <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/marco-koch-bests-competition-in-200-breast-in-finals-at-2015-fina-world-championships\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">slightly faster than his gold-medal performance at the World Championships last summer in Kazan<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, where he grabbed gold in 2:07.76 over U.S.A.\u2019s <\/span><b>Kevin Cordes <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and Hungary\u2019s <\/span><b>Daniel Gyurta. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That is a ridiculously fast swim for January, and makes more of a case for <\/span><b>Koch <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to be the favorite as we inch closer to the Rio Olympics. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Congratulations to <\/span><b>Marco Koch<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Swimming World <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Performance of the Week!<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There were several swims across Europe that deserved attention this week, with Laszlo Cseh and Sarah Sjostrom both posting fast January times.
