It was a busy weekend for the Atlantic Coast Conference with 11 teams competing as they prepare for the 2016 ACC Championships. The women’s meet begins Feb. 17 in Greensboro, while the men’s meet starts on Feb. 24.<\/p>\n

5 Top Takeaways:<\/h1>\n

1. Wolfpack Men Set the Stage for ACCs\u00a0<\/strong>
\nThe No. 8 NC State men made a statement this past weekend, beating No. 19 North Carolina and No. 21 Virginia. The 2015 ACC Champions won the 200 medley\u00a0relay by over a second and dominated the field in the 400 free relay, winning by nearly four seconds.\u00a0Anton Ipsen<\/strong> and\u00a0Adam Linker<\/strong> went 1-2, respectively, in both the 1000 and 500, while\u00a0Simonas Bilis\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Ryan Held<\/strong> took the top two spots in the 50 free. They also swept\u00a0the 200 IM, showing how much depth their team has.\u00a0The Wolfpack men will look to carry this momentum leading into the ACC Championships.<\/p>\n

2. Record Setting Weekend for Georgia Tech\u00a0Divers<\/strong>
\nTwo Yellow Jacket divers set a total of three program records as they swept Emory on Saturday.\u00a0Shannon Lumbra, <\/strong>who was awarded the ACC Female Diver of the Week\u00a0last weekend<\/a>, set new team records in both the 1m (321.15) and 3m (340.65), winning each event by a considerable margin.\u00a0Brad Homza<\/strong> also rewrote the record books in the men’s 1m (379.20), and they will each\u00a0pose as a threat on both boards heading into Championship season.<\/p>\n

3. North Carolina Sets Six Pool Records
\n<\/strong>Rachel Canty<\/strong>\u00a0(100 breast),\u00a0Kendall Surhoff<\/strong>\u00a0(400 IM),\u00a0Hellen Moffitt\u00a0<\/strong>(100 fly),\u00a0Nic Graesser<\/strong> (100 back), and\u00a0Sam Lewis\u00a0<\/strong>(100 fly), as well as the women’s 200 free relay, set a total of six new\u00a0Taishoff\u00a0pool records\u00a0while on the road at Duke. The No. 14 Tar Heel women and the No. 19 men defeated the Blue Devils, and Moffitt showed her versatility by winning three individual events. This puts\u00a0the Tar Heels in a good position as they look to continue their success heading into Championships.<\/p>\n

4. Coombs Victorious for Florida State
\nJason Coombs<\/strong> was the only event winner for the Seminoles as both the men and women fell to No. 7\/No. 11 Auburn and No. 17 Wisconsin. The junior dominated the field in the men’s 200 breast (1:59.41), taking the top spot by nearly three seconds. He also placed second in the 100 breast (53.77). His 200 breast was one of the fastest times in the ACC this weekend.<\/p>\n

5. Pitt Divers Dominate on Boards
\n<\/strong>Continuing\u00a0<\/strong>their success throughout the season, the Panther\u00a0divers showed\u00a0their dominance on both boards as Pitt competed against\u00a0Carnegie Mellon, California (Pa.), Clarion, and Duquesne.\u00a0Dominic Giordano<\/strong> won both the men’s 1m and 3m, with teammate\u00a0Tony Galante<\/strong> taking second in both.\u00a0Meme Sharp<\/strong> led the Panthers to a sweep in the women’s 1m, and also won the 3m with teammate\u00a0Samantha Winkelmann<\/strong> placing second. The Panther divers will aim to continue their success as\u00a0they face tougher\u00a0competition at ACCs.<\/p>\n
