COLLEGE STATION, Texas, May 18. WITH the pool apparently fixed to proper length, the final day of the Texas Senior Circuit meet witnessed some strong times. Dara Torres proved she is completely back from her shoulder rehab with a near-American record time in the women's 50 free.<\/p>\n
Torres clocked a sterling time of 24.56, which is just off her record time of 24.53 set at the 2007 National Championships in Indianapolis. Martina Moravcova finished second in 25.42, while Kara Denby took third in 25.63.<\/p>\n
Alia Atkinson touched out Kara Denby in the women's 50 breast, 33.25 to 33.28, while Spindrift Beck, who actually went 34.24 in prelims, instead of the previously posted 29.77, finished third in 33.37.<\/p>\n
In another photo finish, Dale Rogers clipped Alejandro Jacobo, 28.56 to 28.57, in the men's 50 breast with Vlad Polyakov finishing third in 29.00.<\/p>\n
Julie Stupp of Coral Springs posted a convincing win in the women's 200 fly with a time of 2:14.23, while Chris Marshall and Samantha Woodward dueled for second with Marshall coming out on top, 2:16.49 to 2:16.69.<\/p>\n
Israel Duran of Aggie Swimming notched a win in 2:02.46 in the men's 200 fly, while Matt Donch (2:03.84) and Justin Smith (2:05.45) placed second and third, respectively.<\/p>\n
In the women's 100 back, defending 50 back world champion Leila Vaziri grabbed a commanding victory with a time of 1:01.79, while Petra Klosova nabbed second in 1:03.43. Kristen Heiss finished third in 1:04.46, while Hayley McGregory, who was the top seed with a 1:02.28 in prelims, scratched.<\/p>\n
Another top seed checked out for finals as David Cromwell clocked a 56.28 during prelims of the men's 100 back, while Craig Chapman touched out Dan Rohleder, 57.59 to 57.97, in the finale. Max Murphy placed third in 58.14.<\/p>\n
In the distance freestyle break, Maggie Bird pocketed the women's 800 free title in 8:45.11, while Micah Martindale took second in 8:46.07. Chelsea Haser placed third in 8:50.99.<\/p>\n
Stupp completed a double dip when she turned in a 2:17.00 to win the women's 200 IM. She downed Beck, who touched second in 2:18.36, while Marshall wound up third in 2:20.10.<\/p>\n
Agustin Magruder answered in the men's 200 IM with a winning effort of 2:05.83, while Brian Wilson took second in 2:06.03. Leopold Andara of Coral Springs finished in third in 2:06.91.<\/p>\n
In the men's 1500 free, Caleb Veazey closed out the title with a time of 16:12.13, while James Robertson finished second in 16:15.60. Matt Barber collected third in 16:39.96.<\/p>\n
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Garrett Weber-Gale beat Longhorn teammates Neil Walker (22.95) and Dale Rogers (23.13) in the men's 50 free with a swift time of 22.83.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
