{"id":180570,"date":"2016-01-29T12:47:02","date_gmt":"2016-01-29T19:47:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=180570"},"modified":"2016-01-29T12:47:03","modified_gmt":"2016-01-29T19:47:03","slug":"katinka-hosszu-turns-up-heat-in-400-im-at-2016-luxembourg-euro-meet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katinka-hosszu-turns-up-heat-in-400-im-at-2016-luxembourg-euro-meet\/","title":{"rendered":"Katinka Hosszu Turns Up Heat in 400 IM at 2016 Luxembourg Euro Meet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Katinka Hosszu<\/strong> clocked the second-fastest January 400 IM ever with a 4:34.33 to set the meet record in the women&#8217;s 400-meter IM at the 2016 Luxembourg Euro Meet.<\/p>\n<p>That swim missed the January record of 4:33.64 set by<strong> Aimee Willmott<\/strong> during the 2014 Speedo Flanders Cup. \u00a0It wiped out Hosszu&#8217;s previous meet mark of 4:37.93 also from 2014.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hannah Miley<\/strong> placed second today in 4:40.76 with <strong>Zsuzsanna Jakabos<\/strong> earning third in 4:41.35. \u00a0Spain&#8217;s <strong>Mireia Belmonte<\/strong> wound up fourth in 4:42.58.<\/p>\n<p>Belmonte fired back in the women&#8217;s 800-meter free with a meet-record time of 8:28.82. \u00a0That swim cleared Hosszu&#8217;s 2014 meet record of 8:29.42 and won the event by several seconds.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maria Vilas<\/strong> claimed second tonight in 8:31.51, while Hosszu wilted a bit into third with an 8:37.59.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Laszlo Cseh<\/strong> collected the men&#8217;s 400-meter IM meet record with a 4:17.41. \u00a0That swim lowered the 4:18.46 set by <strong>Ioannis Drymonakos<\/strong> back in 2012. \u00a0<strong>Raphael Stacchiotti<\/strong> finished second in 4:18.94 with Drymonakos earning third in 4:19.93.<\/p>\n<p>Cseh led the way in the men&#8217;s 200-meter fly prelims as well with a 1:59.76 for the top seed heading into tomorrow&#8217;s finals. \u00a0Drymonakos (2:00.11) and <strong>Brendan Hyland<\/strong> (2:00.46) qualified second and third.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mykhailo Romanchuk<\/strong> picked up the men&#8217;s 1500-meter free title in 15:06.15. \u00a0That swim smashed the previous meet record of 15:13.48 set by <strong>Thomas Lurz<\/strong> back in 2008. \u00a0<strong>Jan Micka<\/strong> took second in 15:08.52 with <strong>Marc Sanchez<\/strong> snaring third in 15:14.18.<\/p>\n<p>In preliminary action, <strong>Judith Ignacio<\/strong> topped the women&#8217;s 200-meter fly in a time of 2:09.54 with <strong>Franziska Hentke<\/strong> just behind in 2:09.57. \u00a0Both swims cleared the previous meet record of 2:10.08 set by <strong>Zsuzsanna Jakabos<\/strong> last year. \u00a0Jakabos qualified third in 2:10.67 with Hosszu making her way into the finale with a seventh-seeded 2:13.69.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Simon Hengel<\/strong> (51.74), <strong>Nina Kost<\/strong> (55.80), <strong>Philip Heintz<\/strong> (49.93) and <strong>Tina Rueger<\/strong> (59.21) won the mixed 400 free relay with a time of 3:36.68.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"\/results\/2016-luxembourg-euro-meet-day-1\/international-elite\/2016\/January\/29\" target=\"_blank\">2016 Luxembourg Euro Meet: Day 1 &#8211; Results<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Katinka Hosszu clocked the second-fastest January 400 IM ever with a 4:34.33 to set the meet record in the women&#8217;s 400-meter IM at the 2016 Luxembourg Euro Meet.
