The meet is an Olympic qualifying event.<\/p>\n<p><b>BRAZIL<\/b> <i>(BRA)<\/i><br \/>\n<i>Apr.17&#8211;<\/i>After coordinating with the Secretary of Health for the State of Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilian Aquatic Sports Confederation, Confedera\u00e7\u00e3o Brasileira de Desportos Aqu\u00e1ticos (CBDA), has decided to keep the 2008 Brazilian Nationals at the beginning of May in Rio. Concern over the location and timing of the meet has developed following a breakout of dengue fever in the area. The outbreak is believed to be waning. Contingency plans are in development and are to be announced tomorrow, regarding efforts to ensure the safety\/health of participants at the event.<\/p>\n<p><b>CANADA<\/b> <i>(CAN)<\/i><br \/>\n<i>Mar.20&#8211;<\/i>Diving Canada announced that <a href=http:\/\/www.diving.ca\/english\/html\/news\/2008\/oly1.htm target=_blank>47 divers will compete at the 2008 Canadian Olympic Trials<\/a>, June 20-22 in Victoria, British Columbia.<\/p>\n<p><i>Apr.01&#8211;<\/i>The meet summons in <a href= http:\/\/www.synchro.ca\/e\/documents\/SummonsUANA2008English.pdf target=_blank>English<\/a> and <a href= http:\/\/www.synchro.ca\/e\/documents\/SummonsUANA2008Spanish.pdf target=_blank>Spanish<\/a> for the <b>2nd UANA Age Group Synchronized Swimming Championships<\/b> can be found at the links above. With her time, Moodie became Jamaica&#39;s first swimmer to qualify for the 2008 Olympics.<\/p>\n<p><b>MEXICO<\/b> <i>(MEX)<\/i><br \/>\nThe 2008 Mexican Synchro Championships were April 23-27 in Aguascalientes.<\/p>\n<p><b>SAINT LUCIA<\/b> <i>(LCA)<\/i><br \/>\n<i>Apr.22&#8211;<\/i>The Saint Lucia Amateur Swimming Association (SLASA) held its <b>annual meeting<\/b> on April 22, 2008.<\/p>\n<p><b>USA<\/b> <i>(USA)<\/i><br \/>\n<i>Apr.8&#8211;<\/i><a href=http:\/\/www.usaswimming.org\/usasweb\/viewnewsarticle.aspx?tabid=0&#038;alias=rainbow&#038;lang=en&#038;itemid=1972&#038;mid=2943 target=_blank>U.S. Paralympics has nominated a 38-member swim team (18 men, 20 women) as the USA&#39;s team for the 2008 Paralympics<\/a>. The nomination came following the <a href=http:\/\/www.usolympicteam.com\/08trialsfullmeetresults.pdf target=_blank>USA&#39;s Paralympic Trials, April 3-5, 2008 in Minneapolis, Minnesota<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><i>Apr.15&#8211;<\/i>Former Olympic swimmer Amy Van Dyken and former Paralympic swimmer John Morgan are part of <a href=http:\/\/www.usocpressbox.org\/usoc\/pressbox.nsf\/6272c9a938d3a5cb8525711000564abd\/2e8c9e6d039f955f8525742c006c3f47?opendocument target=_blank>the United States Olympic Committee&#39;s (USOC&#39;s) 2008 Hall of Fame class<\/a>. Earlier this month, the USOC also named swimming coach Paul Yetter as the USOC Development Coach of the Year for 2007. This is due to a current legal suit UCI has against WADA. WADA is planning to move the pilot to another sport.<\/p>\n<p><i>Apr.8&#8211;<\/i>Italian Mino Auletta has been elected President of the <b>Court of Arbitration for Sport<\/b> (CAS). Auletta had been serving as interim-president since the death in-office of the former president in January 2007; his election is for the remainder of the current term, which will expire in 2010.<\/p>\n<p><i>Apr.9&#8211;<\/i><a href=http:\/\/www.london2012.com\/news\/archive\/2008-04\/uk-firms-sign-venue-contracts.php target=_blank>Balfour Beatty will construct the aquatics center for the <b>2012 Olympics<\/b><\/a>. The construction budget for the pool was also updated to \u00a3242 million; up from the originally proposed \u00a373 million.<\/p>\n<p><i>Apr.10&#8211;<\/i><a href=http:\/\/www.fina.org\/project\/index.php?option=com_content&#038;task=view&#038;id=299&#038;itemid=412 target=_blank>FINA has posted statistics on its 2007 drug testing program<\/a>. In total, 1,079 out-of-competition (OCC) and 836 in-competition tests were conducted; these were on 629 swimmers from 52 countries; 585 tests on athletes from 61 countries and all 5 disciplines were conducted in-competition. A copy of these rules are to be sent to each participating country and posted on the IOC website.
