﻿{"id":180110,"date":"2016-01-30T17:16:32","date_gmt":"2016-01-31T00:16:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=180110"},"modified":"2016-01-30T17:16:32","modified_gmt":"2016-01-31T00:16:32","slug":"nyu-vs-west-chester","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nyu-vs-west-chester\/","title":{"rendered":"Victor Polyakov Wins Four As West Chester And NYU Split"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>By Cathleen Pruden, Swimming World College Intern<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Women&#8217;s Meet<\/h2>\n<p>The sixth ranked NYU women were dominant Saturday afternoon against West Chester, scoring 204 points to the Golden Rams&#8217; 82.<\/p>\n<p>The Violets&#8217; team of <strong>May Li<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Krista Traub<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Isabelle Kitze<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Elise Gibbs<\/strong>\u00a0claimed the 200 medley relay (1:48.91). NYU freshmen took the top two spots in the 1000 freestyle.\u00a0<strong>Haley Wen\u00a0<\/strong>touched first (10:24.47) and\u00a0<strong>Grace Wakabayashi\u00a0<\/strong>(10:38.14) was second. Wen went on to claim the 500 (5:07.36). Her\u00a0teammates swept the 200 freestyle as well.\u00a0<strong>Noel Leung\u00a0<\/strong>was first (1:56.30), ahead of\u00a0<strong>Hannah Bergh\u00a0<\/strong>(1:57.67) and\u00a0<strong>Serena Yan\u00a0<\/strong>(1:58.39).<\/p>\n<p>Li was first to the wall in the 100 backstroke (58.75). Her teammate\u00a0<strong>Ashley Corley\u00a0<\/strong>stopped the clock at 1:08.83 to win the 100 breaststroke. Three Violets were within a second of each other in the 200 butterfly, though <strong>Annie Driscoll<\/strong> was first to the wall (2:14.04).<\/p>\n<p>Kitze lead a sweep of the 50 freestyle with her time of 24.41, while\u00a0Leung<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>posted a 53.68 to lead a sweep of the 100 freestyle. The top spot in the 200 backstroke went to freshman\u00a0<strong>Emma Lockman\u00a0<\/strong>(2:08.47). Kitze lead another NYU sweep, stopping the clock at 57.83 in the 100 butterfly.<\/p>\n<p>West Chester&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Emelie Johansson\u00a0<\/strong>won the 200 breaststroke with a swift 2:25.58. After NYU went exhibition, she went on to claim the 200 IM (2:13.63). Her teammates\u00a0<strong>Emily Stang<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Morgan Haney<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Sydney Wareham<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Tess Hayward<\/strong> won the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:45.51.<\/p>\n<h2>Men&#8217;s Meet<\/h2>\n<p>The results were flipped on the men&#8217;s side as Division 2 West Chester totaled 178 points and the Violets scored 121. The Golden Rams topped the first two events. In the 200 medley relay, the team of\u00a0<strong>Michael O&#8217;Brien,\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Thomas<\/strong> <strong>McCormick<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Luke Maguire<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Evan Sherkness<\/strong> posted a time of 1:34.33.\u00a0<strong>Victor Polyakov\u00a0<\/strong>was first to the wall in the 1000 by nearly half a minute (9:17.82). The junior went on to win the 200 backstroke (1:53.31) and the 500 freestyle (4:39.33).<\/p>\n<p>NYU&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Max Phillips\u00a0<\/strong>turned the momentum, winning the 200 freestyle (1:42.14). But, West Chester won the next four events, beginning with\u00a0<strong>Dan Sokman\u00a0<\/strong>in the 100 backstroke (52.29). His teammate\u00a0<strong>Michael Oliver\u00a0<\/strong>claimed the 100 (57.00) and 200 (2:05.41) breaststrokes. <strong>Eric Long\u00a0<\/strong>won the 200 butterfly (1:54.48). Sherkness touched first in the 50 freestyle (21.51).<\/p>\n<p>NYU&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Chad Moody\u00a0<\/strong>was the winner of the 100 freestyle (47.01).<\/p>\n<p>West Chester rounded out the afternoon&#8217;s efforts, winning the last three events. Maguire claimed the 100 butterfly (50.80).
