This past weekend was an exciting one for the Pac-12. Not only were the teams matched up with conference rivals, but they swam\u00a0fast<\/em>. Here’s a rundown of the top storylines from this past weekend.<\/p>\n

Top Storylines:<\/h2>\n

  1. The younger Stanford women are dangerous. In the two dual meets this weekend against conference rivals Arizona and Arizona State, a majority of the victories came from either freshman or sophomore women. That’s not to say that the upperclassmen women didn’t do their part, but freshmen\u00a0Ella Eastin\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Leah Stevens<\/strong> have proved their worth for the No. 2 team in the country. The sophomore\u00a0Janet Hu\u00a0<\/strong>has also proved pretty lethal in the sprints.<\/li>\n
  2. The gap between the top five ranked teams and the rest of the ranked squads is pretty big. This weekend saw a number of ranked match ups within the Pac-12, but even in meets like the one between\u00a0the No. 5 Stanford men and No. 15 Arizona men, there was no contest. The Same went for the No. 2 Stanford women and the No. 11 Arizona women. The top five teams average scores of 180-115 when in contests with teams ranked beneath number five. The conference championship should be interesting, but this adds another dimension for the Pac-12 teams at the NCAA Championship later this season.<\/li>\n
  3. Momentum. In the four big match ups this weekend–California vs. Arizona, Stanford vs. Arizona State, Arizona vs. Stanford, and Arizona State vs. California–the winner from Friday’s dual meet was also the winner from Saturday’s and<\/strong> the margin of victory was greater. This suggests a continuance of momentum from the previous day on both sides of the meet. Winners won by more, losers lost by more, as well, which is something to bear in mind as the conference championship looms ever nearer.<\/li>\n
  4. Pac-12 Networks have begun their broadcasts of swimming and diving events with the coverage of Arizona State’s dual against Stanford. Not only is the conference leading the charge in publicity for swimming and diving, it’s also bringing in some big names to do it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
