The 30-year old <\/span><b>Sprenger <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was long a vital piece of the Australian breaststroke scene and an integral piece to their medley relay. An Olympic silver medalist in 2012, <\/span><b>Sprenger\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">career highlight came in 2013 when he was crowned world champion in Barcelona in the 100 meter-breaststroke, touching in 58.79. <\/span><b>Sprenger <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also set the world record in the 200 meter-breaststroke at the 2009 World Championships in Rome that broke <\/span><b>Kosuke Kitajima\u2019s<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> mark. Three of those wins (400 free, 50 fly, 200 IM) all came on the same day, showing some impressive versatility and tough racing. On the third day of the meet, <\/span><b>Cseh <\/b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/molly-hannis-cranks-out-2nd-fastest-january-100-breast-ever-at-geneva-international\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">grabbed the 200 meter-butterfly in 1:57.37<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The next day he added two more wins, <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/mitch-larkin-grabs-2-wins-at-victorian-open\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">touching in 1:59.31 in the 200 IM before crushing the field by more than two seconds in the 200 backstroke (1:55.16)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>Larkin <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">saved his best performance for the last day of the meet, however, as he smashed <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/james-magnussen-sweeps-sprint-frees-victorian-open\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Australian All-Comers record in the 100 backstroke when he touched in 52.85<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That swim cleared American backstroke legend <\/span><b>Aaron Piersol\u2019s <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">record of 52.98 from the world championships in Melbourne in 2007. While his times may not make the same impact as <\/span><b>Larkin\u2019s, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the 24 year-old\u2019s return to competition does show steps in the right direction that should bolster the hopes of Australian Swimming as they head into this summer. <\/span><b>Magnussen <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">posted a 49.35 win on the first night in the 100 freestyle, which places him just behind 17 year-old phenom\u00a0<\/span><b>Kyle Chalmers, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">who posted a 49.30 at the South Australian Championships the day before. Those\u00a0two came from the FFN Golden Tour Stop, where <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katinka-hosszu-sets-fastest-january-200-im-ever-at-ffn-golden-tour-stop\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hungarian <\/span><b>Katinka Hosszu <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and German <\/span><b>Marco Koch <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">turned in two great performances in their respective best events<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. First, <\/span><b>Hosszu <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stopped the clock in 2:08.20 to set a January best and put the rest of the swimming world on notice that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katinka-hosszu-stuns-takes-down-techsuited-world-record-in-200-im-at-2015-fina-world-championships\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">her 2:06.12 world record from last summer was no fluke<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That time still would have put her first in the world in 2015, two-tenths ahead of British swimmer <\/span><b>Siobhan-Marie O\u2019Connor <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and Japanese swimmer <\/span><b>Katano Watanabe. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Later in the session, <\/span><b>Koch <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">touched the wall in 2:09.37, which was also a January best. Both <\/span><b>Hosszu <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>Koch <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">were ranked first for 2015 in the 200 IM and 200 breaststroke, respectively. Also in Europe, American breaststroke <\/span><b>Molly Hannis <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">set the second-fastest\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/molly-hannis-cranks-out-2nd-fastest-january-100-breast-ever-at-geneva-international\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">January time in the 100 breaststroke at the Geneva International Meet, finishing in 1:06.47<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That is also a best time for <\/span><b>Hannis, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as it clips her previous best of 1:06.60 from the Dubai stop of the World Cup.
