35 Thoughts Swimmers Have While Watching Diving<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s a safe assumption to say that the vast majority of swimmers \u2014 including myself \u2014 do not understand diving. Those combinations of numbers and letters<\/a> and twists and flips and diving lingo\u00a0<\/a>is\u00a0all foreign to us. As swimmers, we have to ask ourselves: are divers this confused by swimming<\/a> as we are by diving?<\/p>\n

Here are 35 thoughts swimmers have when watching diving:<\/p>\n

  1. Diving is so much cooler than swimming.<\/li>\n
  2. What do those numbers and letters mean?<\/li>\n
  3. I\u2019m pretty sure that\u2019s higher than 3 meters.<\/li>\n
  4. How was that not a 10?<\/li>\n
  5. How do they even score a 10?<\/li>\n
  6. I could totally do that.<\/li>\n
  7. Just kidding, no way could I ever do that.<\/li>\n
  8. How do they know where they are when they resurface?<\/li>\n
  9. If I tried that dive, there\u2019s no way I\u2019d ever resurface.<\/li>\n
  10. What does \u201c201C\u201d mean? Is it secret diver code?<\/li>\n
  11. How can they remember what each dive is?<\/li>\n
  12. That was WAY too close to the board!<\/li>\n
  13. What\u2019s the difference between a 6 and a 6.5?<\/li>\n
  14. Okay, that was definitely<\/em> a 10.<\/li>\n
  15. Why is there no 2 meter?<\/li>\n
  16. I get more nervous watching diving than I do before my own races.<\/li>\n
  17. Wait, was that their third or fourth dive?<\/li>\n
  18. What on earth is a 5122D?<\/li>\n
  19. I totally thought she was going to hit the board that time.<\/li>\n
  20. How does scoring work for diving?<\/li>\n
  21. How does scoring even work for swimming?<\/li>\n
  22. That was DEFINITELY a 10.<\/li>\n
  23. HOW WAS THAT NOT A 10?!<\/li>\n
  24. I wish I was that graceful.<\/li>\n
  25. I wouldn\u2019t even have enough coordination to climb up the ladder.<\/li>\n
  26. How did they get into diving in the first place?<\/li>\n
  27. What am I swimming next?<\/li>\n
  28. OH MY GOD THEY HIT THE BOARD.<\/li>\n
  29. Nope, they didn\u2019t, but that was way<\/em> too close.<\/li>\n
  30. Do divers ever wish they were swimmers?<\/li>\n
  31. Probably not.<\/li>\n
  32. What dive are they on? Number five?<\/li>\n
  33. I should become a diver.<\/li>\n
  34. Nah, I should stick with swimming.<\/li>\n
  35. Wow, divers really don\u2019t get enough credit.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    \u2026and there are many, many more questions and thoughts swimmers have about diving. It\u2019s easy for diving to get overshadowed by swimming, but let’s not\u00a0forget that we are a swimming and diving<\/em> team. I talked to my teammates who are divers, and shammies have an actual purpose, and no\u2014their hot tub is not just for lounging.<\/p>\n
