﻿{"id":178615,"date":"2016-01-19T07:12:41","date_gmt":"2016-01-19T14:12:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=178615"},"modified":"2016-01-19T07:12:41","modified_gmt":"2016-01-19T14:12:41","slug":"sun-yang-among-headliners-for-2016-perth-aquatic-super-series","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sun-yang-among-headliners-for-2016-perth-aquatic-super-series\/","title":{"rendered":"Sun Yang Among Headliners for 2016 Perth Aquatic Super Series"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>China, Japan and Australia have all declared their teams for the 2016 Perth Aquatic Super Series set to take place next month in Australia. \u00a0<strong>Sun Yang<\/strong> and <strong>Ye Shiwen<\/strong> are the two headliners for the Chinese squad.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Swimming Australia Press Release:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dual London Olympic gold medallists <strong>Sun Yang<\/strong> and <strong>Ye Shiwen<\/strong> will headline a 24-strong Chinese National team announced today for next month\u2019s 2016 Perth Aquatic Super Series against the Australian Dolphins and Japan.<\/p>\n<p>The 2012 Olympic champions will be major international drawcards for the first international hit-out of the year, en-route to the 2016 Rio Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>The pair will join Australia\u2019s reigning world champions <strong>Emily Seebohm<\/strong>, <strong>Bronte Campbell<\/strong> and <strong>Mitch Larkin<\/strong> along with Japanese stars \u2013 two-time Olympic medallist <strong>Takuro Fujii<\/strong> and women\u2019s World championship breaststroke medallist <strong>Rio Kaneto<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Seebohm, Campbell and Larkin will be joined by 2013 World Champion <strong>Cate Campbell<\/strong> and fellow 2015 Kazan medallists <strong>Cameron McEvoy<\/strong>, <strong>Madi Wilson<\/strong>, <strong>Jess Ashwood<\/strong> and <strong>Mack Horton<\/strong> in an exciting Australian line up.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI love racing internationally and it is even better when it\u2019s on home soil,\u201d said <strong>Cate Campbell<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d never really understood home ground advantage before we went to Perth for the first time a couple of years ago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo hear the crowd roaring for you and not the person next to you does give you a lift and standing there with everyone cheering for you is definitely very very special.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great way to start the year, we are going to have some tough competition and everyone is racing not just for themselves but for the team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that is really important if you are personally stinging a little bit and you want to find that little bit extra because you are going to be helping out your team.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou are swimming for the Australian Dolphins it\u2019s a great team bonding experience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s quite a small Australian team with a few new faces on it which will be really exciting; blooding some new athletes will be great especially in the lead up to an Olympic Games.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Australia has named a team of experienced Olympians and world champions along with a select band of rising stars, including breaststrokers <strong>Matthew Wilson<\/strong> and <strong>Georgia Bohl<\/strong> and medley man <strong>Justin James<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Australian Dolphins Team<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The three-way international meet will be swum over two days, on February 5 and 6 at Perth\u2019s HBF Stadium with tickets available through Ticketmaster.<\/p>\n<p>Sun became China\u2019s first male Olympic gold medallist when he won the 400 and 1500m freestyle in London four years ago while Ye, just 16, won double gold in the 200 and 400m individual medley.<\/p>\n<p>Just last year Sun, the world record holder for 1500m freestyle, took his overall FINA World Championship gold medal tally to seven, when he won the 400 and 800m freestyle double in Kazan.<\/p>\n<p>Sun will race Australia\u2019s young gun, <strong>Mack Horton<\/strong> (who won bronze behind the Chinese super-swimmer over the 800m in Kazan) over both the 400 and 1500m freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>Horton will have his first major competitive hit-out at this week\u2019s Victorian State Championships at the Melbourne Sports And Aquatic Centre, starting Friday as will Larkin and fellow Perth-bound Dolphins <strong>Emma McKeon, Georgia Bohl<\/strong> and <strong>Madi Wilson<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ye competed at last year\u2019s Kazan World Championships and finished eighth in the 200m individual medley and will face Australian pair <strong>Keryn McMaster<\/strong> and <strong>Tessa Wallace<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Japan has also named a 24-member team of 13 men and 11 women, to be led by two-time Olympic relay medallist from 2008 and 2012, Fujii.<\/p>\n<p>The star sprint butterfly-freestyler, was a member of the Japanese silver medal-winning 4 x 100 medley relay in London 2012 and bronze in the same medley relay in Beijing in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Kaneto is one of the world\u2019s best female 200m breaststrokers, winning silver in the 2014 FINA World Short Course Championships and silver in the Pan Pacs on the Gold Coast in the same year.<\/p>\n<p>She was a close up sixth in last year\u2019s Fina World Championship final with just two seconds separating the first six places \u2013 an event which saw a triple dead-heat for third.<\/p>\n<p>Kaneto will line up against Australian pair, Commonwealth Games gold medallist <strong>Taylor McKeown<\/strong> and London Olympian <strong>Tessa Wallace<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Other standouts include Chinese trio:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Established Hao Yun (Events: 200, 400m freestyle): A member of the silver medal-winning 4x200m freestyle relay team who finished fourth in the 400m freestyle at the 2012 London Olympics. He also won silver in the 4x200m freestyle at the FINA World Championships in Barcelona in 2013 and silver over 400m freestyle at the FINA World Short Course Championships in Istanbul in 2012;<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Rising star Li Guangyuan (Events: 100, 200 Backstroke): A semi-Finalist in the 100 and 200m backstroke at the 2015 FINA World Championships, gold medallist in the 200m Backstroke at the 2014 Youth Olympics &amp; Junior World Record holder, and;<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7 Noted women\u2019s freestyler Shen Duo (Events: 100, 200 Freestyle): who was 8th in the 100 Freestyle, 6th in the 200 freestyle, won Gold in the 4 x 100 Medley Relay and Bronze in the 4 x 200 Freestyle Relay at the 2015 FINA World Championships in Kazan.
