In Reaction Time, Rutemiller talks to Forbes Carlisle, a renowned former Olympic coach in Australia who has seen many advances in swimwear and technology. Carlisle said the recent technology "has gone astray," especially as material such as polyurethane are introduced into swimwear fabrics.<\/p>\n
He said it hasn't yet been proven if the new swimsuits have enhanced performance, noting that performance levels tend to peak in Olympic years.<\/p>\n
Carlisle also questioned the criteria FINA uses to judge the swimsuits, saying the organization should make the information public. Rutemiller and Carlisle also talk about FINA's redefining of the word "material" in a swimsuit and how it has affected swimsuit makers going forward.<\/p>\n
The interview continued as Carlisle talked about the effect the new suits will have on age-group swimmers, where parents will do practically anything to get their kinds into the expensive suits.<\/p>\n
"It's a very unhealthy situation," he said.<\/p>\n
