AFTER having Austria&#39;s Markus Rogan take his men&#39;s 200 back world record away, Ryan Lochte of the U.S. responded in the men&#39;s 100 IM by lowering his own global standard at the FINA World Short Course Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Lochte clocked a time of 51.15 to drop his previous standard of 51.25 set during semis.  <\/p>\n<p>Here are the comparative splits:<br \/>\nLochte (yesterday): 23.36, 52.25<br \/>\nLochte (today): 23.77, 51.15<\/p>\n<p>Slovenia&#39;s Peter Mankoc placed second in 52.21, while Great Britain&#39;s Liam Tancock pocketed bronze with a third-place 52.22, all under the previous world record.<\/p>\n<p>Lochte actually trailed at the 50-meter mark with both Mankoc and Tancock turning ahead of him.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;The 200m back takes a lot out of you, so I&#39;m glad I could step back up for this race,&quot; Lochte told meet organizers.<\/p>\n<p>Lochte is now tied for second in career FINA World Short Course medals with 14 overall.  Michael Klim holds the record with 15, while Matt Welsh, James Hickman and Lars Frolander each hold 14.<\/p>\n<p>The win is the first for the United States since Neil Walker set a then-world reoord with a time of 52.79 in 2000.  Mankoc had won the crown in back-to-back meets with victories in 2002 and 2004, wile South Africa&#39;s Ryk Neethling won in 2006.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, Lochte wore teammate Mark Gangloff&#39;s swim cap throughout the evening.<\/p>\n<p><a href=http:\/\/65.110.72.225\/SPIPDF\/041308wscmm100IMf.pdf target=_blank>Event Results<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Viewers from the United States, click here to watch all the races at WCSN.com for FREE.
