{"id":178341,"date":"2016-01-17T18:00:38","date_gmt":"2016-01-18T01:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=178341"},"modified":"2016-01-17T18:00:38","modified_gmt":"2016-01-18T01:00:38","slug":"matt-grevers-stretches-way-victory-100-back-austin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/matt-grevers-stretches-way-victory-100-back-austin\/","title":{"rendered":"Matt Grevers Stretches Way to Victory in 100 Back in Austin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following an equipment malfunction delay, Tucson Ford&#8217;s <strong>Matt Grevers<\/strong> stretched his way to victory in the men&#8217;s 100-meter back at the 2016 Arena Pro Swim Series Austin.<\/p>\n<p>Grevers, who has the advantage of being 6-8, touched out the rest of the field in a time of 53.35.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s just off the top January time ever set by <strong>Ryosuke Irie<\/strong> with a 53.15 from the BHP Aquatic Super Series, and just off Grevers&#8217; January career best of 52.37 from this meet last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ryan Murphy<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ryan-murphy-smashes-200-back-austin\/\" target=\"_blank\">who won the 200 back earlier this weekend<\/a>, took second in 53.46, while NYAC&#8217;s <strong>David Plummer<\/strong> placed third in 53.50.<\/p>\n<p>Club Wolverine&#8217;s <strong>Junya Koga<\/strong> (53.97), NYAC&#8217;s <strong>Arkady Vyatchanin<\/strong> (54.33), SwimMAC&#8217;s <strong>Tyler Clary<\/strong> (55.10), St. Thomas&#8217; <strong>Rex Tullius<\/strong> (55.57) and N.C. State&#8217;s <strong>Hennessey Stuart<\/strong> (55.75) finished fourth through eighth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jacob Pebley<\/strong> posted a 55.01 to win the B final.
