PETER Marshall of the United States took the gold in the 50 backstroke finals at the FINA World Short Course Championships.<\/p>\n<p>Marshall completed the backstroke splash and dash in 23.49, edging Liam Tancock of Great Britain by .04 (23.53).<\/p>\n<p>Marshall told meet organizers that he used his underwater kick to win the event.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I was still swimming underwater while the others had come up,&quot; Marshall said.<\/p>\n<p>Ashley Delaney from Australia finished .04 behind Tancock, taking third in 23.57. Thomas Rupprath of Germany finished fourth with a time of 23.65.<\/p>\n<p>Gerhard Zandberg from South Africa (23.70), Randall Bal from the United States (23.73), Xiaolei Sun from China (23.82) and Albert Subirats of Venezuela (23.94) rounded out the rest of the championship final field.<\/p>\n<p><a href=http:\/\/65.110.72.225\/SPIPDF\/041208wscmm50backfinals.pdf target=_blank>Event Results<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Viewers from the United States, click here to watch all the races at WCSN.com for FREE.
