{"id":178048,"date":"2016-01-16T18:25:42","date_gmt":"2016-01-17T01:25:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=178048"},"modified":"2016-01-16T18:25:42","modified_gmt":"2016-01-17T01:25:42","slug":"sarah-sjostrom-just-misses-50-free-u-s-open-record-austin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sarah-sjostrom-just-misses-50-free-u-s-open-record-austin\/","title":{"rendered":"Sarah Sjostrom Just Misses 50 Free U.S. Open Record in Austin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sweden&#8217;s <strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong> blasted her way to victory in the women&#8217;s 50-meter free at the 2016 Arena Pro Swim Series Austin.<\/p>\n<p>Sjostrom nearly captured her third U.S. Open record with a 24.17. \u00a0That swim beat her third-ranked season best from last year of 24.20. \u00a0It nearly beat<strong> Cate Campbell&#8217;s<\/strong> U.S. Open mark of 24.13 from 2008.<\/p>\n<p>SwimMAC&#8217;s<strong> Madison Kennedy<\/strong> turned in a sizzling time of 24.72 for second, but looked slow compared to Sjostrom in the other lane.<\/p>\n<p>SwimMAC&#8217;s <strong>Arianna Vanderpool-Wallace<\/strong> placed third overall with a time of 24.84.<\/p>\n<p>HPCO&#8217;s <strong>Chantal Van Landeghem<\/strong> (24.92), Canyons&#8217; <strong>Abbey Weitzeil<\/strong> (24.93), California&#8217;s <strong>Farida Osman<\/strong> (24.95), France&#8217;s <strong>Anna Santamans<\/strong> (25.05) and HPCO&#8217;s <strong>Sandrine Mainville<\/strong> (25.47) placed fourth through eighth.<\/p>\n<p>California&#8217;s <strong>Natalie Coughlin<\/strong> won the B final in 25.19.
